I remember before we had Tab we had Diet Rite cola, which was in bottles. When Tab came out we switched to that because it was better.

@Pearlee @SeaMaiden  i did the hard boiled egg diet too, but not brown rice.

i never drank anything diet until i was at college. and thats when i got hooked on TaB and crash dieted too. i ate only hard boiled eggs for breakfast and grapefruits for lunch and dinner.

TaB used cyclamates and saccharin then removed the cyclamates and stayed with saccarin until 1984 when COCOLA switched to Nutrasweet (aspartame) and there was a backlash due to the taste change.

TaB is an acronym for 'Tasty aerated Beverage'

I tried Tab once and once ws enough. Nasty drink and  I decided that I would drink water before I drank TAb. Now Diet Coke is another thing all together. I drink 2 per day.  If I am sick I drink regular Coca Cola or gingerale.

Well, it's about time. I do have a TAB story. Sophomore year in college I routinely stopped at a vending machine while leaving my late-morning Sociology class for a TAB. One day, with HERE COMES THE SUN, George Harrison, playing in the background from Student Union, this handsome stranger slipped behind me and put a quarter and dime in the coin slot, pressed TAB, then walked away. We've been married 42 years.

@CatsyCline   It is not an acronym.  Coca-Cola used an old IBM mainframe to come up with 3 to 4 letter words. Eventually the thousands that the IBM spit out dwindled down to a few hundred.

The marketing reduced them further and tested the finalists among consumers.  TaB won because consumers identified it with "keeping tabs" on their weight.
