I signed up at Proboards and they do not ask for a phone number.  Just an email.  I made up a birthdate.

So the new board will essentially become a closed island not allowing new entrants?  It seems that it will become insular with only the existing group.  No new outside thoughts and ideas.

At least at Q new posters were constantly popping up.

But I guess that always caused consternation so now everyone will have what they always wanted.

@Johnnyeager   I don't believe it will be closed in the way you are thinking.  It will be private only in the sense tthat soon you will have to register an account in order to read and/or participate.

I'm sure people from here that have been involved in its creation can clarify, especially if my explanation is incorrect.

@Carmie   When you get a chance can you clarify this for this querent?  Many thanks, as always.  And thanks for all the work you and others are doing to get the new site up and running.

I'm obviously not @Carmie, but if I remember correctly from some of my reading about that whole site, forums can be made private but once they go private they can't change back to public.  However, public forums can go private.

So, I would hope that if the administrators and moderators eventually make that decision, they would so so with the majority of the members agreeing to it since once done, it can't be changed.

My personal opinion is that I would eventually like to see it private so that no one other than members can see our posts.  However, I'd like it to remain public for a decent interval so that anyone from here that wants to see the format before committing to join can do so.  That was a major point in my decision to join.  I could see the similar format so that I didn't feel so intimidated and also see that many of the current members here were there.

I'm probably in the minority (as usual!!) but I will not be migrating to another "social media" site.  I came to the forums only because I was on the QVC website to begin with, not the other way around and I do not join any "social media" sites.  I've enjoyed posting here and reading some, not all, responses.

Stay safe everyone and wherever you wind up, enjoy!

Would some of the former posters who have been banned (they were angry and hateful people) be allowed to join on a new board? Since the answer is yes I will probably not sign up amywhere else.

The site is public now so that the QVC posters can visit and look around to see if they want to register, but this will not last too long.

In the near future, only registered members will be allowed to see and read the posts and be able to see the posters names.

Visitors will only see the outline and forum categories.

Privacy is a big issue.  We are looking for a safe and respectable environment for everyone.

I will need to check to see if once private if it could  be changed to go public.  I haven't seen any info on that.  There are seven people in the Admin positions and we are all in agreement that we will go private and stay private.

There should be more privacy than QVC's forums.

Some are in favor of doing that right now, but I, and another  person want to wait so that everyone has a chance to check it out first, so we are public for now, but not for long.

It is also possible for posters to delete their account if for some reason they want to leave.

I am still reading up on the rules and regs at Proboards and it will take some time to know all the answers.

@Pearlee  Lurk there for a bit.  Scroll through the members.  Check out the Royal Forum.  I think @dulwich is there.

@Pearlee You can come and browse without registering, but only for a little while longer.

The boards will be locked.  Visiting guests will not be able to read the posts or see the posters nick names.

This is being done for security and privacy.

Currently there 644 people registered.

@Carmie  Why not give a specific date rather than "a little while longer?"  I am still undecided. I would hope you would let people browse there until this board closes.
