If @brewhaha were here, she'd say that this gives a whole new meaning to being stoned.

It's sad you make a joke about children being murdered at school

I think some of you are saying stuff just say it...lol. Yeah sure, a guy busts in with a blazing gun firing and the kids.....run to the corner and grab some rocks....lol I imagine that would put make them even bigger targets!!!! The kids who aren't mowed down by bullets....hurl a rock at the shooter. Sorry, there isn't that much adrenaline in the world to make that work. Well, perhaps it would work in a Bugs Bunny cartoon.

You know, I find this sad because this man is just so desperate to protect the children and feels like this is all he can do. I do applaud him for thinking outside the box because it may take some creative thinking to address the issue but.....well....I am afraid this would not be a realistic solution and could make things much worse. I don't have the answers either, though, and some of the solutions I have will still not completely fix the problem or completely keep the kids safe so who am I to really pass judgment on him? Maybe throwing ideas like this out there will stir the creative juices in others and eventually lead to a better, more realistic compromise?
I will say this though....if people don't believe in fighting violence with violence, then how is this acceptable as a solution? And if someone is against arming teachers, why would this be a better alternative, when the rock weapon is far less accurate and far less damaging to the perpetrator than a gun would be, perhaps putting the students at even greater risk? Just playing devils advocate here and wanting to hear other people's thoughts. Like @cherry, I am frustrated with the lack of ideas/solutions and what I think is the over abundance of talk and indignation (how many years have we been taking about all this now??).
Absolutely no offense meant to anyone on these forums, just taking generalities here.

He isn't causing violence, he is protecting the children from being murdered big difference...

Re: the Austin, TX bomber — we must arm all citizens with bombs to protect ourselves against bombers.
See how ridiculous that sounds?
Arming teachers as said by many teachers is a bad idea. By the time the teacher unlocks the gun from the drawer, inserts the bullets, the entire class is dead from the assault weapon used by the gunman.
Assault weapons do not belong in the hands of citizens, period.

I seriously question this man’s logic. I would consider taking my kids out of school before I entrusted this man to “protect” them by having rocks in the classroom

I would want my children under the care of someone who is at least trying to save them, than people who offer no solutions or help, just empty words, that do nothing at all

@cherry I'm kind of surprised by your response to Carmie., My question is when was the last time you were in a classroom and/or lockdown procedure and training?
I've been through years of this esp. since Virginia Tech and then Sandy Hook in CT. Our kiddos and teachers have been well prepared; we even had Law Enforcement practice (at night, no kiddos) trying to get into the school armed so all options could be 'tightened up.'
35 years ago, knowing what I know about education today, I would never have chosen this noble profession.

Oh you mean ‘thoughts & prayers’ — those empty words?
