Sounds good, but what if the few who filled out the long form were 'well off', not needing much, if any, assistance. Less money for the community, it seems to me. In my case, my utility bills are very low, as I seldom, if ever, turn on my furnace. But, I know for a fact that many of the folks around here need their warmth (seniors, children, etc.) and spend hundreds of dollars per month paying their utility bills. So, what if I were the only person in our neighborhood who received a long form? The demographics in my neighborhood wouldn't be accurate. EDITED: One of my walking friends just reminded me that I feel too sorry for too many people and that I shouldn't be so worried about the others in my neighborhood and in the community..........Oh, well..........{#emotions_dlg.unsure}

I agree, Noel and all. But, shouldn't everyone have the same form in order for the census to be completely (more or less) accurate? I really don't understand (in my mind) the accuracy if/when not everyone receives the same form.

Oh, sorry, ROMARY. I was going to respond but I've been fixing dinner at the same time. It's a long explanation but the answer is no, you don't have to poll everyone, you just need to make sure you have a random and unbiased sampling.

Well, 'all in all' (pun intended, lol), everyone should receive the same form. Maybe a shorter one than the long-long one, but they should all be the same. As I recall, from years ago, the senior I was referring to said she was the only one she knew in our neighborhood/senior groups who received the long form. And she was very popular, very much very social in the community. Knew lots of folks, so to speak. Large family, etc. .............EDITED: No wonder our roads are still a mess...........she used to take a cab everywhere!

Here is a site that breaks some of the questions down and explains why they need to know. You can click on each one for an explanation. For example they want to know your marital status and here is why.

F
ederal Uses:
Marital
status and history allow agencies to analyze the effect of polices and programs
that have
different effects on married and unmarried couples. Marital history is also used to predict future
changes in e
ntitlement
programs like Medicare and Medicaid, and to plan and assess assistance
programs such as Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF). This information is
further used
to calculate marriage and divorce rates and understand the characteristics of individuals experiencing
these transitions.
Many
agencies also use these statistics to add detail to their information
; for
example,
agencies use marital status and history as they investigate questions of infant mortality, birth
rate and other matters related to child welfare.
State and County Uses:
St
ate and local governments use data about marital history in assessing needs
for different groups
including
widows
and
single people who may establish households in the future.
These governments
seek
to create policies and programs to encourage appropriate
development for the community.
Pr
ivate Sector Uses:
Businesses that provide childcare, dating, wedding, senior, or legal services may use the statistics to
better understand and anticipate their customers’ needs. Additionally, community groups may use th
e

statistics to engage groups of people who are transitioning from one status to another.

Irish: Great if that question is on all of the short forms. Anyway, I don't think that the Census is being mailed out until 2020........?? Is this correct? Anything else this year would be a scam of some sort, if this is true.
