It is good noise for me since I am alone and it keeps me up on current events. I like tv......I wish I did not want one.

I like tv and have mine on quite a lot. There are certain programs that I enjoy and other times just like it on in the background while I'm cleaning, folding laundry, etc. Watching tv is also how I sometimes de stress after work - it's nice not to think for awhile. I don't think it's 40 hours per week, but if it is - oh well. I like my life as it is.

I have it on but with no sound and I do not watch it very much during the day (mostly because I am here on the computer . . . I don't know which is worse).

I do watch it at night, I have favorite shows. I watch some QVC when it's stuff I'm interested in. Sometimes I use it as a backup when there is nothing else on.

When I was a normal person (working), I never watched TV at all. I had none in my bedroom, I would go to bed exhausted at night with a NYT crossword puzzle. I played music a lot, and still do now that I have a Bose, which takes up so little space. I have it on a little table next to my bed so I can play it low and not disturb my neighbors.

Any time I have visitors, even my girls, I do not have the TV on. If they want to watch it, there is one in the living room, but they mostly don't bother unless they have the kids with them (and the kids barely watch anymore either, they are constantly on their iPhones . . . again, I don't know which is worse).

So am I a TV watcher now? I would say yes . . . but certainly nowhere near 40 hours a week.

Never have the TV on unless watching something specific. What a waste of energy otherwise.

Under normal circumstances, I don't watch much TV. News in the morning and evening, a couple of favorite shows and hockey games. That's about it. I'm not home enough to watch it more. I had surgery for a detached retina a few weeks ago, and if I hadn't been able to watch TV while I was recovering, I would've been miserable. There IS a lot of awful stuff being broadcast, but I watched some really interesting things on the Smithsonian and History channels.

I do put my living room TV on a timer to go on and off during the day and evening while I'm traveling (as well as a couple of lights). It gives the appearance that someone is home.

I know a lot of people like to keep their TV on in the background as they go about their day. I'm the opposite. The background noise annoys me. I prefer the pleasant sound of silence.
