Yes...the only mediums that LOST time were radio and newspapers.

TV was up even more than internet. But 80% of people surveyed were online AND watching TV at the same time.

I don't know. I don't watch all that much as I find most of the shows predictable and not that good.

Watching TV does not have to be a waste of time, far from it. It depends on what you watch. I've never watched a Housewives show but I do like to watch NOVA, Masterpiece Theater, and a recent show detailing the battle of Gettysburg.

It's like most things in life, it's what you make of it.

Noel I agree with you as I watch History etc...but that much? Sitting too much...I noticed that with my parents....they were always watching TV. If you watch good things you can educate yourself.

That is 40 hours a week, a full time job! No, I do not watch even close to that. I have shows that I like and I DVR most of them. I save them so they cannot be erased and then I watch them when I have time. My schedule for TV watching varies so greatly. Some weeks I may watch about 10-12 hrs a week and then I will go for 2 weeks and not watch it at all. The only show I do not miss is Jeopardy. I watch that every night and if I am not home by 7, I watch the recording when I get home.

I don't get any of my news from television either. Well, I will occasionally watch Brian Williams before Jeopardy if I happen to be home but I get all my news online and have several different papers delivered to our house daily.

I do think people watch way too much TV but the numbers you gave both surprised me and saddened me. Wow, that is way too much. I cannot imagine watching as much television as a full time job. Americans do watch a lot of tv though, when I am in Australia, I would say more than half of the people I Know there don't even own a tv. People there are very rarely in their homes, they are out and about and when they are home they connect with each other, not with television or social media.

When I was growing up, I could watch 8 hours a week and my mother monitored it. I hated that at the time but as I have gotten older I do appreciate it. I see the bad TV habits some of my friends have. I ended up doing the same with my daughter. She could watch 10 hours though and there was no TV in her room.

We rarely turn the television on except for watching the news during dinner and baseball games. I still enjoy reading the 3 newspapers that we get in the morning.

I have it on as background white noise, while doing project etc, but I never actually "sit down" to watch it.
