@x Hedge wrote:@Carmie, our deliveries are prescheduled, there's no possible way to "skip to the front of the line" by offering a big tip.
@karabeth , I adjusted my tip after delivery for the first time last Saturday. 30% of my order wasn't available, had to throw out half the bananas, and the delivery style necessitated far more pre-cleaning than I'd anticipated.
As I expected, I'm in the middle of the "hottest" COVID-19 spot (zip), in the hottest city, in the hottest county in my state.
Instacart is responsible for training their employees in observing mitigating behaviour during the delivery. Why the heck do they think we're using their service?
From the article, it appears the shoppers can accept to pick up your order or not. If the tip is large, they will be eager to accept your order.
i have never used this service. When I tried to, delivery was promised 10 days in to the future. Way too long for me to wait.

I read this article and it is too bad instacart doesn't have a way of marking customers who bait and switch workers tips letting workers know not to take their orders. and put all of the bait and switch tippers into the same batch with the bait and switch notification. to take away a tip because the worker can't find tp is terrible. I can't believe the way people act but then I guess I can. Maybe they should charge a minimum tip of 15.00 otherwise go get the stuff yourself.

@rockygems123 wrote:@Icegoddess I ordered a couple of weeks ago, received someone else's order, Instacart wouldn't answer their phone, our grocery store wouldn't reimburse and said they had repeated problems with Instacart and that they were possibly going on strike.
Luckily I used AmEx, filed a dispute and received credit the following day.
Maybe it differs from one area to the next?
There were only SOME Instacart employees that went on strike and I dont think they were successful......
They've been overwhelmed with orders in my area....but the shoppers/drivers have always done a good job...Maybe the driver/shopper was new....Yes, Instacart cart phones are probably OVERWHELMED , they are OVERWHELMED with orders and so busy that delivery times all taken over a week out.......

I have been an Instacart customer for 2 years and have always been pleased with my Shopper and Driver....The Shopper stays in touch and always does their best to get what I want with my order..... I always indicate a replacement in case what I want is out of stock....
The only time Ive been miffed is I placed an order 5 days in advance and my date/time was moved because they got overwhelmed....perhaps it was due to the Easter holiday which added to more deliveries being rquested because of the Pandemic....My beef was I wasnt even notified, and someone on these very Forums mentioned their date/time had been changed....But it looks like things have calmed down and there are now delivery times for next week....

@Kachina624 wrote:Why wouldn't the company be responsible? The shopper is their employee; they screened and hired him/her to represent their service. I'd be darned if I'd let $200 go without raising a super stink. Take it up with your credit card company then call a local TV station with a story.
This is only for NO CONTACT DELIVERY, which they have defaulted to due to the OVERWHELMING orders....they do leave a photo to confirm the fact that the order was delivered---they did their job and if a customer is not deligent in immeditely going to the door and bringing their order in that leaves the opportunity for theives to steal it.....It goes back to the CUSTOMER taking RESPONSIBLITY to bring their order in promptly!

@karabeth wrote:If you are using Instacart to Social Distance yourself here is my experience. I had a grocery delivery yesterday from Instacart and a van load of people delivered the groceries. I had contactless delivery so the delivery person rang the doorbell and left the groceries on my doorstep. I glanced out the front window and saw the van with a woman driving and someone in the front passenger seat and others in the back seat. I could not see the age of the passengers but perhaps it was a single mom who needs a job and had her kids along with her. But I wasn't happy about it and left a note on Instacart's website. I've had other Instacart deliveries but didn't see who delivered. I'll probably pay more attention now to who is making the Instacart deliveries.
Isn't that the whole point of contactless delivery, they ring your bell or knock and leave you a photo showing that the food was delivered...
Before the virus, I know one time I had a lot of heavy items and it was NOT a contactless delivery, and the woman whose picture I got delivered my groceries, but a man helped with the heavy items.....a 30 lb tub of kitty litter, HUGE bag of cat food, and big laundery detergent and other heavy items...One delivery person told me that she's had to deliver mass quantities from Costco and had to go up 4 flights of stairs to a 4th floor apartment building...So I can understand if a delivery person needs help and give them some slack....

I really don't know how Instacart works, but I was just posting a warning. Here is the actual news segment I was referring to.

@karabeth wrote:@CarmieI just noticed yesterday that you could change the tip after Instacart delivery and I thought that isn't fair. I guess if mistakes were made on the order they want to give people the chance to change the tip amount but I bet it is more like what you described that people misuse this feature. I sure hope not though.
Sometimes I change it but its to add a little bit more to my tip if the shopper/delivery person went out of their way to help and delivery was extremely fast.....
