It is very freeing. I realized I was only turning on my t.v. for about 1 hour or two at the most at night (even on the week-ends) since I read about 6 books a week. So when they were forcing me to get new equipment a higher price line-up I told them what they could do with my one hour per day. That was in Oct. 2015 so closer to1.5 years without cable for me. Still pop in a movie (I have tons) for watching just before I drift off. Love to save the $$ and never used t.v. or radio for background noise.

@hoosieroriginal I think your idea is a great one! Like any addition, we get so use to whatever our addition is in our lives, we can not stand the thought not having it be a huge part of our day.
I am addicted to TV. I am addicted to the computer and surfing the web. If I did not do either of these additions daily... wow what a different kind of day I would have. So much time spent doing these two addictions. I often times think " what did people do without TV and without the internet??? How could they be happy without them???" I guess they did other things... probably accomplished a lot more and got a lot more exercise.
So I applaud your cutting the cable. Good for you! That is huge. Please update us as time goes on... how you feel and if you find yourself ever getting depressed as you go through the withdrawl period to get to the other side free from Cable. Best wishes!!

@SeaMaiden- I still have my computer and come on the forum often. But reading has just been a huge escape for me - I had forgotten how much I enjoy it! The minute I open my book in the evening, the dogs close their eyes for the evening. There's so much negativity out in the world, I really just got tired of getting depressed listening to it - so much crime! I guess I have decided to stick my head in the sand and escape to another world in books!

I do not blame you one bit. I only have access to Internet at my office so when Friday comes I am offline (no computer ect.. at home and only text and talk cell phone) until Monday morning. The world may blow up but it will do it without my knowledge until I get to my desk. I have not missed a thing.

We gave up cable. My husband 'needed' espn, so we pay $20/month for SlingTV channel and he's happy. Sling also includes live CNN,HGTV, BBC, Sundance, TBS, TNT +other channels for that same $20!
You do need a device ...we watch it thru our ROKU
Very pleased with SlingTV, a good value imo......

For some of us, new, unused is worth the cost.
I can totally relate. I'm like that. I don't begrudge others a different POV at all but, for me, I just don't care for used books.
As to the OP - Glad you're enjoying it. I really do need my cable, so I'd probably be going crazy (-er. hehe) without it but we all have different needs, right?
Look how much you're saving! It gets more and more expensive. We have all the Premium channels, so it's no small amount but, for us, it is worth it.

I can borrow books from the library to my kindle for free. I have been using this a lot.

I've tried a Kindle and hated it; the same goes for paperbacks. I like a new hard cover book.

Certainly , your money, your choice. I like kindle because I don't feel obligated to store the finished book - read it and erase it.
