In this area of WV, the store started out as Revco, then changed to Eckerd's, and finally CVS.

Eckerds was pretty big around here in NY because originaly they were Fays which was NY based I think. Then when they merged with CVS they just closed them because we already had tons of CVS stores not to mention Right Aid and Walgreens had started expanding here.

Some of the Eckerds stores were sold to Rite Aid in 2007. The ones where I lived became Rite Aid. And the Rite Aid stores are empty now. I also remember Revco and Lane Rexall

It was a wonderful family-owned store who really cared for its employees. It was all downhill after Walgreen's bought them. Sad.

I remembered CVS was previously called Savon's Drug Store, maybe that was a west coast thing. I once in awhile catch myself still saying Savon's. Rite-Aid was previously called Thrifty's Drug Store.

I worked for Eckerd as a Dept. Mgr. in N.Y...after I closed my Hallmark Store.. Then it was bought by Rite-Aid..I permanently retired and moved before Walgreens bought them...Now the only drug store in our small town is Walgreens..I hate shopping there..but we need our meds.
They are way over priced on everything including meds. and with their meds or anything they don't price match.
Can't get my meds delivered..the mail"person" won't come up the driveway if it has a dusting of snow. wouldn't want them delivered to my roadside mail box..that has been demolished a few times by a snow plow..and we had to "try" to find it!...I try not to order anything that has to be delivered from Nov.1- mid-April (snow season)

It has been awhile since that changed and for years I still referred to it as Eckerds. Back in the 70's it was the only place open to buy shop for certain things on Sundays and holidays. Eckerds would have certain items taped off on their shelves you could not but on Sundays due to the Blue Law. It was deposed of here in Texas in 1985.

My mother was an executive with JCP before retiring. I remember when they bought Eckerd Drug since she could use her discount there.
