While getting my COVID booster today, I noticed a framed newspaper ad for Eckerd's drug store hanging in the corner of the CVS pharmacy. I googled when I got home and saw that JC Penney first bought the Eckerd chain of stores. CVS acquired them from JCP in 2004. While researching I saw CVS also acquired Revco. I did not know this. Thought I would share in case I wasn't the only one.

@On It    I wondered what happened to Eckerd Drug Stores.  We had a ton of then when I lived in Houston.  CVS is nothing like them.  Somebody really did a number on them.

I remember Eckerd.  But my favorite was Happy Harry's.  It was based in Delaware and eventually bought by Walgreen's.

Re: CVS is Eckerd

At this point in my area there are essentially two major chains: CVS and Walgreen's. All the others, aside from supermarket pharmacies, have been subsumed by one of these massive chains or the other and the service, predictably, reflects the lack of competition. I can remember when there used to be a half dozen pharmacy options.

@On It  I remember Eckerd's when I lived in NY and NJ in the 70's. Didn't know what happened to them. Don't know Revco. Thanks for sharing.

@On It  now I'm here repeating Eckerd's, Eckerd's. Oh how I liked Eckerd's.
