My mother always buttered the bread when she made sandwiches. Does anyone do that?

@occasionalrain  No we don't.  I have heard of that but don't know anyone who does it.

In the fridge.  When used, I'm either cooking with it or putting it on hot food, so it melts.

I have a weakness for cute butter dishes.  I have a collection.  I almost enjoy when the stick gets used up so I can pick and use a new one.

@occasionalrain - I use butter for grilled cheese sandwiches only. I melt it in the pan and lay the bread down on it.🍞🧀

Re: Butter keeping

[ Edited ]

I keep it in the fridge.

However, reading some posters’ replies about storing butter in the freezer (which I have never done) makes me wonder how long to keep butter in the fridge.  I have never noticed “bad butter”. What happens to it if kept too long in the fridge?

I’m thinking maybe I should be changing my butter “ways”.

Good thread!

I shape my own sticks from tub butter and keep in a butter dish in the fridge.

Butter is banned in my house along with any type of "butter" spread.  It is a painless way to keep away from fats.  The only time I think I miss it is when I remember grits, they are MIA too.

I mostly use butter for baking or cooking so it is in the fridge. The rest is in the freezer. Rarely eat butter on bread at home- it is usually peanut butter for my breakfast.

Big pet peeve - when I'm out and delicious bread is offered - HATE it when the slab of butter is rock cold. I always want the butter at room temp. Love warm bread with room temp buttah....

What's a butter bell?   Never heard of that.

@Tinkrbl44 @IdahoGram

I bought the butter boat over the butter bell since I read sometimes the butter slides out of the butter bell.

Do you have that problem with yours?

I can see it doing that in the summer when the butter is a lot softer due to temp.

I believe it was done to help prevent the sandwich bread from going soggy.   JMO

The only sandwich I ever put butter on is a grilled cheese. YUM!!!
