@freakygirl wrote:i see the same thing where i live. young girls in shorts and tees, guys in tees and flip flops. it makes me feel even colder! lol! i kinda think they want to show that nah, it’s not cold at all.
@2blondeI'm kind of like your boss as I always feel too warm in heated rooms. There is always a window slightly open in my apartment (even on the coldest days) for that for thhis reasn. @freakygirl My thinking is in th same ballpark as yours on the folks who run around in shorts and tees in cold weather. I'm no psychology expert, but I think they are seeking attention. They know people are going to look at them and these days they may even make a social media page. It's like the guys who sit shirtless at televised football games when it's freezing because they expect to get at least one camera shot during the game.

Here in Alabama, when the temps go below 70 the women start wearing their boots & scarves. Guys wear tailored khaki (golf) shorts pretty much year round

@cherry wrote:@chrystaltree You just jogged my memory. Our local paper( years ago) did an article about one of the letter carriers. He used to do his route all ,year long, with out a coat. It started as a bet ,with another guy. The man told him you get used to the cold( I never would). He said, if he didn't start wearing coat in the fall ,he would be ok all winter
SO, he tried it. When it became really bitter, he would wear a hat. Frankly, I think it is stupid
I have a neighbor with the same theory! For years, he will continue to wear his bermuda shorts throughout the winter with a sweatshirt. Me? I'm bundled up like the Michelin Man and still freezing on my walks.
Cannot decide if the faster I walk the more cold I stir up or the warmer I become! It's a theory I've hashed around for decades and never figured out! Cold is cold. My nose is first, then my hands and toes (neuropathy) . . . and then everything else. Doesn't take long! I'm a wimp, too. LOL

@BirkiLadyI think they have some sort of thermal socks that are battery operated, if you are interested. I know neuropathy is dangerous

Everyone feels the cold (or heat) differently. I've lived my entire life in Michigan, and I'm used to it being cold. If it's at least 40 degrees outside, I'm probably wearing shorts. I'll have on a long sleeve top or fleece, but I'm perfectly comfortable in shorts, particularly when I'm moving around. In the winter, I keep my thermostat at 65 during the day and 62 at night. If it's much warmer than that in the house during the day, I feel nauseous. I had it bumped up to 68 earlier today because I'd seen several news items that suggested boosting the indoor temp to help cope with heat loss due to the extreme cold outside and I couldn't stand it. Had to dial it back to 65.

My husband and I were at Walmart the other day and we saw a guy running around in shorts, flip flops and a hoodie. The guy was no kid, he was an older fellow but was very big and heavy, maybe he runs hot. We were in down coats, hats and gloves.

@cherry I wear German-made Haflinger clogs for winter weather. They have the same footbed as Birkenstock's but use wool or felt rather than leather or suede. Keep my feet warm and comfy! Have heard of the socks you mentioned, but don't care for socks at all.

@FrostyBabe1 You are exactly like my 2 grown sons. Neither one of them can stand the inside temperature above 67. My daughter-in-laws don't agree and like it warmer! Haha

Here In Anchorage, Alaska we have a sizable islander population and I often see men wearing lavalavas (skirt). Seems cold to me.

We went out for a bite at our local diner , there was an elderly man setting across from us ,in a sleeveless Tshirt. It looked like something you would wear, when it was 90 outside. He didn't have a shirt over it, and he was neat and clean, and I guess well dressed ,if you like that look.
Everyone else at his table ,was dressed to fit the weather. He didn't seem self conscious so, I guess it is normal attire for him
