Re: Board Gender Identity

[ Edited ]

If I see a mans face...I tend to think I am posting to a man. Same thing with a woman. I can't imagine why you would want to portray yourself as someone you're not.  I don't feel like I have to know what gender someone is but if they put  their gender out there I would hope that's what they were.  I would think that person dishonest if they portrayed themselves to be something they are not. With all that said....I imagine that there are people who do this. If I found out otherwise, I don't know that I would believe anything else they said.  Their credibility would be in question for sure.

Despite a poster's avatar (male or female) and/or the poster's user name and/or how a poster has identified her or himself, I sometimes  think the poster is not the gender he/she says he/she is.  Writing style and punctuation use often gives a person's true gender away.

Does anyone agree?  Or do you just accept every  poster at face (pardon the pun - esp. with the avatar) value?

You dont believe that i am a cat????

@Shawnie  I'm not addressing species at all.   Just gender.

I look forward to your thread on species.

If you truly do not know if a poster here is male or female or if they are lying or not, then you can always call them.....

I don't accept ANYTHING on the internet at face value.  I take everything with a grain of salt when it comes to the internet.

As I say, sometimes someone trying to come across as the opposite gender fails so badly at it that it's comical.  He or she is attempting to hide his or her true identity and completely failing at it.     I feel like posting "the gig is up."

I don't know why you're so sure you can tell.  Writing style reveals nothing about gender.  And most people have different writing styles on the internet than they do in their business and personal lives, anyway.

Cat Tongue

If you are addressing me, I'm Pearley.

And I don't know what on earth prompts you to even ask that. That's not what this thread is about at all.  Clearly I am who I say I am and if you don't think so.....that's your problem.

I don't know, your sentence structure is a little suspicious.

If someone is speaking on a topic about women and it turned out they were a male then yes that would be irritating.  In other words pretending to be a woman and commenting on women's issues but not a woman.

Really?

Life's too short to get panties in a bunch over something like that.  These are forums, not real life.  We have no idea who is actually behind all these keyboards, so I think we have to just take a leap of faith and go with it.  If a random man sneaks in (gasp!), it's really not a big deal.
