I watch some of the shows. They make no since to me. How fresh can some of that stuff be? Also what about mold. And how do they keep mice and rats out? Just my view point.

I always wondered about mice, especially with the ones who set up shelving in their garage for these massive quantities of packaged food items.

I don't have mice in my house, of course, but they have found their way in the garage in the past. If you put any kind of food, whether it's people food or pet food, in the garage, the mice will find their way in and they can tear up packages like no tomorrow.

Re: Been Watching Extreme Couponing and . .

I feel this kind of couponing can ruin it for the casual semi-serious couponer like myself.

I am not "hoarding" nor stocking a deep pantry (I understand about the pantry need if one lives far from a store).

I just want a good deal this week, ya know?

I know I would be pretty ticked if I wanted a jar of a particular mustard and some person had just cleaned every single bottle off the shelf to hoard it. Leave some for other people. Smiley Happy

This practice causes some stores to no longer double and triple coupons like they used to (like the store I go to), and it can also cause some stores to limit the amount of coupons that can be used.

IMO, this is quite the bummer and not fair to others.

A nice man came to the food bank with cartons and cartons of canned foods from his mother's home. She had recently died - she was a couponer and hoarder. Almost everything he brought in was far past the expiration dates - like 10 years past.

He should have seen that before bringing them to the food bank. Even people needing charity deserve fresh food not past the pull date. I am sure he meant well and donated it with good intentions.

This reminds of something off topic. I work at a non-profit. You would not believe some of the CR&P people donate, probably thinking they are so very wonderful.

I actually feel nervous while watching Extreme Couponing. All that stuff piled up to the ceiling and they are usually so pushy too. Some of their husbands are such pushovers too.

I use coupons, but only for items we need/use. I remember on that show, a woman bought pack after pack of diapers and she had no kids. Weird.

I don't use coupons anymore. I usually shop at Aldi's and I'm saving money by buying their products. I buy cleaning supplies/gift bags at the dollar store. If I'm at a store that price matches, (Target, Lowes, etc) I use my Red Laser or Amazon price apps to get the lower price. Always keep a BB&B coupon on my Smart Phone, in case I'm shopping there.

We only get the Sunday paper and pick it up at the dollar store. Yesterday morning, 5 minutes after opening there weren't any left. There are two women that will buy 30 papers each. None left for anyone else that wants just 1.

That shouldn't be allowed, IMO.

I would consider asking your store to hold the paper for you. I have done this many times when I needed an extra copy in addition to the copy delivered to my home, and the store has happily obliged.

Or the one where they had 200+ bottles of Tylenol! You just know they resold those to a discount drugstore off the main drag. Yes, it's weird. Very weird...I saw that diaper episode! I was, huh?!
