believe it or not, the second bagel pictured is a JERUSALEM BAGEL......made popular in israel during the late 60s. they are not boiled and baked so they have a much shorter shelf life than a traditional new york bagel. that is not salt on it, but sesame seeds. you can find it at bar bolonat in manhattan and at nur restaurant in nyc.

i am an equal oppourtunity bagel lover.  Smiley Wink

Bagels are not Israeli but Eastern European. My great uncle Shlomo was an immigrant bagel baker in Brooklyn. He would bring fresh bagels daily to my Bubbe (grandma) and she would give them to us. He was baking bagels before Israel was a country.. His sons opened the first bagel store in Baltimore and was one the first to offer the pizza bagel.  I'm a bagel purist!  LOL

i did not say that bagels were israeli......just that the bagel in that photo was based on an israeli bagel from the late 60s (after the six day war.) they were a popular street food.

your family history is interesting! which bagel store in baltimore? that is where i am from and we have lots of great bagel places and kosher delis here!

@sunshine45 I’m Not sure if the stores are still open or remember what they were called. I’m a little uncomfortable about posting their last name although that was probably the name of the store. The sons must have moved there in the 60’s. I love Baltimore! I still have cousins who live outsidethe city. We go into the city for crabs and music.

I seriously must be 'missing something'...........

If you cut a bagel in vertical slices, just turn the round bagel slightly, and position it so it's horizontally sliced.

'I don't get it' (all of the commotion).  Regarding vertically sliced vrs. horizontally sliced.

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).
