we have places that do this here also but in a different direction (the direction that you would "normally" slice a bagel).......love it actually and so great when you want to make your own bagel chips.....or if you just want to cut back on the amount of bread you are eating.

i also highly recommend owning a bagel guillotine.

It must be a really well-kept secret as I'm from STL and have never seen anyone do this. In fact, we had bagels delivered to the office yesterday and they were all intact lol!

@Caaareful Shopper  I love it...for those who just want a little bite or if you wanted to try a different flavor. I think I like that slice and wonder why I never thought of it.

I'm from NYC, I would never slice my bagel like that! I would think you would use more butter, cream cheese, etc this way.

THAT is one of the advantages! think of all of the different spreads and toppings you could have when they are sliced differently.
