I agree.

The junior high near us has some type of detectors mounted at either end of the "school zone."  It is supposed to detect cell phones of drivers in use.

@Jordan2  Holy cow - this is a pet peeve of mine and has been FOREVER!!!  I continue to be amazed with people who buy/have autos without turn signals!!!  LOL but not really LOL.

Drives me insane.  It is SO easy to flick the turn signal up or down to make it go click click with the light bulb that flashes to reflect which direction on is turning to.  And I'll go the next step to say without prejudice that from my driver's seat it's men who are more guilty of this than women are.

On the broader spectrum of bad drivers, why must one who's making a turn, go wide from the next lane to make their turn?

Why do people turn right from the left lane they're in and vice versa?

Why do people pull out from somewhere only to then drive in the 'turn' lane only because they just HAD to pull out without waiting for the accurate lane to be free?

And finally, WHY DO PEOPLE STILL TEXT AND TALK ON THEIR PHONE WHILE DRIVING?  Personally, I totally steer clear of these drivers because they ARE DAMGEROUS DRIVERS.

Driving is so dangerous anyway.  Why is it so hard these days to JUST DRIVE?

You all should live where the vast majority of those on the road are over 70 - only come here for a few months in the winter so they are not familiar where they are going, and are driving a car they don't regularly drive. Add to that the fluffy white dog sitting on the driver's lap and hanging out the window, the cell phone and the radio and it is a recipe for disaster.

This whole thing with people who cannot seem to stay off the phone/texting while driving is so profoundly concerning and scary.  It's like a thing that has just gone too far and cannot be reeled in.

The only thing I can imagine is making cars that will not operate if there is a turned-on phone inside.  If you need to talk on the phone, get to your destination or pull off the road and turn off the car.  Then, turn the phone OFF and you can start your car again.  boom

I forgot to add this little tidbit. I live in a private house with a driveway. This happens all the time. I'm backing off my driveway slowly looking both ways. Someone comes speeding from around the corner and instead of letting me finish swerves around me, continuing on his way. I always wait and let the car pull off the driveway and proceed behind him.

LOL we've seen them on the rides at DisneyWorld on their cellphones..  I mean we were waiting to get on Buzz and there's this big ole fella, one arm stretched out like he was a King and blah blah blahing away on his cell..  How on earth can you hear with all that music and noise?  LOL

And on the way back from Knoxville last week-end we stopped at a Pilot gas station..  first thing I walked into the ladies room was some women, a couple stalls away, just yelling and talking.. had her friend on speaker so I heard both of them yelling back and forth..  Oh how I'd of love to ripped a big one..  sorry mods it had to be said and I tried in the kindest fashion.. LOL

A pet peeve of mine too.

I see a couple of things going on here, besides those already mentioned (ie cellphones).

Most people nowadays are only interested in getting from here to there and as fast a possible.  They don't enjoy the drive and they don't think they have to abide by the laws unless there is a police car around.

Encouraging the mindset of driving time being wasted time - look at the ever increasing distractions being built into cars.  Used to be multiple power outlets so you could have your laptop plugged in on the seat next to you (or 2 or 3).  Now you add in the on-board nav systems that of course tell you to pull over to change settings but how many do?  Latest is now you can buy cars that are 4g enable and act like mobile hotspots.  Yup, lets add more distractions.

Of course then they sell all the latest anti-crash tech to compensate for the drivers not paying attention to their driving.

At the moment, I think my biggest peeve is that people cannot turn and keep their cars in the correct lane.  They cut the corner when turning left and drive at least half a block until they manage to get in the lane they should be in.  Turning right, they can't be bothered to turn the wheel hard enough to keep in their lane either and go wide enough to enter the on-coming traffic lane.

OMG, you are so right on ! Twice in one week, I have had people pull out in front of me so that I had to brake. There was no one behind me in both instances. I tapped my horn to show my displeasure (I know you're not supposed to do that, but dang.....) and both times the driver stuck their arms out the window and gave me the finger. What ?? Is this what's taught now ?

Buck - your remarks about 'turning' reminded me of one thing that bugs me about boneheaded drivers I see constantly -

My little street is off of a larger street that kind of connects one large street to another.     Now, as you go up/down this street to which I refer, it has several little bends.  They aren't 90 degree, or even 45 degree, turns - just little bends in the road.

Most of the drivers I see just cut through the turning lane, or opposite lane, as it bends to the left, or they cut through the pedestrian/bike type lanes on the right when the street bends to the right.

I would ask - how freaking difficult is it to stay in your lane?   Here's my answer - if you know how to drive it's very much NOT difficult.  It's like they think they're Mario Andretti and they just make it as straight as possible by cutting through other lanes.

Ok, thanks.  Smiley Happy rant over.

Your street sounds like the main road through my little suburban city.  Makes me CRAZY (or should that be crazier?) that so many people are too blankety-blank-blank lazy to turn their steering wheel to stay in their lane!!
