Re: Anyone here from Columbus, Ohio...or there abouts??

Is there anything special in Columbus on Columbus Day?

Re: Anyone here from Columbus, Ohio...or there abouts??

Here's how I happened to find the Book Loft in Columbus. My younger son was getting married in North Carolina. A dear friend of mine, who had been battling cancer on and off for 20-some years, offered to drive me there (from Michigan). The idea was that we would go to as many literary sites and independent book stores as possible along the way.

We had the most fabulous time! The Book Loft drew our attention the first evening (all those nooks and crannies; different CDs playing as we moved  from room to room). We returned the next morning and pored over the multitude of books. Then we continued on, viewing  literary curiosities.

This was the best trip of my life. I will always treasure the memories--of literature and my dear friend, who passed on about a year later.

(By the way, the wedding was anti-climatic, and didn't take. But the second one seems to be working; I'm going to visit the family--including my first grandchild, now eight months old--this weekend.)

Re: Anyone here from Columbus, Ohio...or there abouts??

Thank you, thank you for the suggestions. wow! Lots to do there.  And food, I love good artsy artisan food, organic mainly.  But hey, I am on vacation.  As long as it is not beef, pork and that ilk, I am game!

Yes, my granddaughter is at OSU.  She has not even been off campus yet due to her being an over achiever, lol.. So she is looking forward to stepping off campus limits, and enjoying Columbus.  She has been there twice, once to take a test another for her full scholorship interview.  She stayed with her family in Short north?  Is that what the area is called?  They did go to the German town, and some shops, and a place with corn statues,

But as I said, since she started school she hasn't been anywhere off campus!

I think it may cool down next week when we go, to the mid 60's.  I guess I will have to buy an umbrella, as I have had no use for one here. Lol!

@PINKdogWOOD....I am several hours from Columbus and DH and I are heading that way for Thanksgiving...we will be alone...so I plan on doing a little shopping.  I did not know about the new mall, will have to try and get there.  The Cheesecake Factory is a must, so we will be stopping at the other mall so we can take home some cheesecake.  Thanks for mentioning the new shopping mall.

Another vote for Easton Town Center.   If the weather is good, it is a great place to spend part of your day.

@Oznell

You may already know this but in case you don't I thought you might like to know that people who live in Ohio are called Buckeyes.  My mother is a Buckeye.

Great Cbus minds think alike @Lipstickdiva!!!  You mentioned living up north - I hope you're not talking 'that team up north' rivaly!!! And these days even if you are in MI, I wouldn't mind living there now myself for many reasons.

Cap City - for me they're #1 which they don't have all the time is their Walleye, to absolutely die for! If it's on the menu, it's a no-brainer for me.

Without asking names (unless you want to share his last), which dept if you know did your friend work for? I spent 36yrs in Student Life, mostly in the Residence Halls system, then fiscal for my last few years. It was mostly all good but 5 yrs into retirement I don't miss it!
