@shopped out wrote:We just got stiffed for $1,400+. We booked a vacation package with them (flights and
hotel) to Italy. They told us we have 24 hrs cancellation. They did not inform us that
the hotel has a no cancellation policy on the room they booked us into. We asked
for accommodation for 3 and without our knoweledge until after the fact the room
was upgraded to a Junior Suite with an added charge Euro 100.00 for an accessabe bathroom (bathroom for a disabled person.) For 8 nights that's a lot of money!.
If he would have been informed of theese 2 things we would have said no and
started over. Hine site we should have done some research on Expedia it self.
Looks like they have done this to many many people and some people have been
waiting for 8 months to get their refunded. Some just accepted this bad business
practice.
My opion.,,,,Do not use Expedia, Hot Wire or any of those companys. Getting the
deals are really not deals.
There must be a misunderstanding somewhere in your communication with them. Because I use them for just about all of my traveling, mostly hotels and have had no problems whatsoever.
Can you pull of your verification emails to and from them? Have you gone line by line as others suggested? Did you purchase travel insurance? And lastly please call your credit card company.

I can only tell you this. When you book anything through any of these discount sites, you are their customer, not a customer of the hotel's. Therefore, if you have an issue, you typically have to deal with Expedia. And they have the right to move you to another hotel if the hotel you are booked at overbooks. That happened to a relative of mine. Expedia moved him to a hotel that was 30 minutes away from where he needed to be and was in a bad part of town. That was the last time he booked through them.
There is no doubt sometimes you get a much better deal through a third party site though. Periodically they run killer deals on hotel rooms. Last year when I was looking for a downtown Nashville hotel, Trip Advisor was running a special for $49.00-$89.00 a night. To book directly through the hotels was quadruple that price. The trick was to know about the deal and get in fast enough. LOL

If you cannot negotiate with them for a refund you can get help from an Ombudsman for travelers.
e-mail Linda Burbank at travel@usa today.com or send a letter to the address listed on Condé Nast Traveler website or look on line for many ombudsmans that might be able to help you.
Travel insurance is a good investment especially for foreign travel. Hopefully, you purchased it??

The $1400 was for flights for three and hotel for eight days?
I don't think that is bad at all. Unless I am missing something - as you said flights and hotel.
I have used all of those sites with no issues..did you actually call them directly and ask to speak to a Supervisor? Explain the details?
