We just got stiffed for $1,400+. We booked a vacation package with them (flights and
hotel) to Italy. They told us we have 24 hrs cancellation. They did not inform us that
the hotel has a no cancellation policy on the room they booked us into. We asked
for accommodation for 3 and without our knoweledge until after the fact the room
was upgraded to a Junior Suite with an added charge Euro 100.00 for an accessabe bathroom (bathroom for a disabled person.) For 8 nights that's a lot of money!.
If he would have been informed of theese 2 things we would have said no and
started over. Hine site we should have done some research on Expedia it self.
Looks like they have done this to many many people and some people have been
waiting for 8 months to get their refunded. Some just accepted this bad business
practice.
My opion.,,,,Do not use Expedia, Hot Wire or any of those companys. Getting the
deals are really not deals. Thanks to all for suggestions. We received full credit.

Call your credit card company.

I would dispute the charge with my credit card company.

i always prefer to make my plane reservations and my hotel reservations separately and not through a discount site. i can usually find good deals with direct booking and i clearly learn the cancellation policies either online or via phone.

I have bought many airline tickets and thankfully nothing has gone wrong. I choose to book hotels direct.

I have used Expedia (hotel rooms only) dozens of times and had no issues ever. Nothing outside the country though. So what was the cancellation for? Air only?

I always use a travel agent when travelling abroad & for flights.
Travelling w/in the US I call the hotel directly to get the best deals.

I have used Expedia on occasion to book hotel rooms and have not had a problem. I do keep close track of the drop-dead cancellation dates "just in case" I need to cancel.
For airline bookings I've used Kayak or I go directly to the carriers website.
For our last trip in September, I booked us into a pet-friendly hotel. I thought I was calling the hotel directly but it turned out I was calling a third-party phone number to make the booking. There was no problem but I really wanted to ask some questions of the hotel staff. My thinking is that more small establishment might be going the third-party route.

I have used Expedia several times without any issues. It's unfortunate that was not the case for you.
Assuming as you were traveling to Europe you made the reservations awhile ago. Did you not opt to purchase the additional travel insurance they offer at the time of booking? You should have an e-mail from them received right after you made your reservations that delineate the charges to confirm the insurance option.
if you needed a handicap accessible room, could it be you were upgraded to a junior suite to provide that option? Should the upgrade have been made after you initially booked the trip, which added additionally to the expense, they would have sent you a new itinerary with corrected pricing for the package.
I would go back and look at your travel documents provided by Expedia again, in chronological order, as something seems to be amiss. If they made an error you may have recourse through your credit card. They are generally very good about full disclosure to avoid circumstances like this.
Hoping you can get resolved to your satisfaction.

I've used Expedia several times and I never had any problems at all. Your situation is unfortunate but it's probably not representative of the company. You should contact your credit company and explain the situation. They might be able to reverse the payment.
