Re: Anyone else uncomfortable with this term?

I'm not crazy about 'H*ly C*w' , either. Aren't cows considered holy/sacred somewhere? (Seriously)

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).

Re: Anyone else uncomfortable with this term?

Well, babies do it on a pacifier or their thumb, we do it on a straw, a vacuum does it.

None of those things are bad or crude.

So, if there isn't some negative connotation somewhere to it, how did it become such a negative term?

To my knowledge, it's only used as a negative now.

It's used all of the time to mean something is no good.

Thanks, Rain City Girl. I never use the term. It doesn't seem appropriate (to me).

Re: Anyone else uncomfortable with this term?

It's a crude term and intelligent people with a decent vocabulary should find other words to use.

Re: Anyone else uncomfortable with this term?

I started hearing it a lot when I was teaching middle school in the mid-80s. It just sounds vulgar to me.

I know exactly how it is used. I'm asking HOW it got to be used as a bad description if it never was thought of as bad. I originally said that it was used as bad and was not used.

That maybe the origin of the negative CAME FROM what I originally described. And that's why I have a hard time hearing it thrown around.

If I am making any sense to say it the right way!!

It's one of those words that is the only way to express a particular feeling.
