Yeah, my first choice, too, but with the drought and the emphasis on mandatory water conservation, you can't shower 6 times a day to cool off. Dampening your skin can be done several times a day, if you wish.

I'm sure there were MANY different points of view on this situation. Your opinion is not the only "correct" one .... and I don't see why reporters would want to deliberately "slant" a story. Providing an objective explanation is what they aim for, so why would they want to "slant" the facts? Doesn't make any sense.

henny, this is the first place I looked this morning, I could read the worry in your words last night and I know how we feel about our animals.

One other tip, if drastic is needed. When the tiny kitty (barely 5 lbs) was lethargic, I picked her up and held her side at the open door of the freezer. Not in it, but just so she would feel the cold air, then I turned her around and did the other side. This was a couple of years ago. We took her to the vet and they gave her fluids. That's where we learned to give her a short fur-do.

John Steinbeck mentioned in his writings about the cruelty of people against those (like themselves) that were migrants. Dustbowlers or known as Okies and other minorities in the state before the onslaught of the easterners. Also the Bracero contracted groups. These people helped feed and build Califorina to make it what it is.

You're right, LR. It was awful for them, no one rolled out the welcome mat, for sure.

Same with the Bracero program, young kids worked in the fields alongside their parents. No school, harsh treatment. A couple have written books about their experience here.

For many years I hung out with the Editor of a News Paper. Many times I would be at an event and the reporter wrote things that never happened. I noticed this happening many times. Also I have been invited to private first time showing of movies and TV programs by the higher ups, (was stated to be a true story) to get my opinion or understanding of the subject shown. In BOTH cases they did not show or report facts. I stated each time that the movie or TV program was lies and not showing facts.

In both cases I was told they had to add something to sell the story or movie because it would not sell to the public.

When you read or see something best to step back and think before you react to do something.

The farmers and ranchers that helped the migrants was relatives of the people that came from Olk. during the dustbowl time, and was part of the Grapes Of Wrath. No wonder they planted grapes when they got here. They had the plants to plant. They helped the migrants. They know how hard it is to come to a new area with nothing.

Certainly the evaporation will make you feel Cooler, this is why humans sweat..for the cooling evaporative effect..

but out consider this, though it may sound odd....A hot bath will actually make you cooler in the long run..why? The hot water brings the blood capillaries closer to the skin surface ( which is why your skin gets red when its hot) and blood closer to the surface of the skin can be more readily cooled by our bodies "evaporation" system...

Why is it OK for the local kids to work beside their parents in the fields all the time, year after year.....but when the people that was coming here allowed their kids to work beside them it is bad and wrong? See the slant?

It is 69 right now, at 11 am. They predict temps of 94 today. It says chance of T-storms. The sky is covered white, so you never know. The rest of the week is 90. I can deal with that. Better than 107
