In addition to raising APR , Penalty APR, and Returned Payment Fee they will now be charging $1.99 per month for the convenience of sending a paper statement.
Not too happy with any of this. I'm never late and pay in full each month but I'm not pleased to learn I'll have to pay to receive my bill in the mail.
Anyone else have views on this ?
@Pamita. Some legally blind person who can't use a computer needs to challenge this in court under the ADA.
in that case how are they reading the paper statement
It depends on the problem.
My mother wasn't technically legally blind--she could read many paper documents, but she couldn't see things on a computer well enough to tell what they were.
ok that makes sense, I was thinking that there are programs and devices to help those with diminished vision
but that is a good point that was made upthread
I wonder if one could challenge the company on grounds of disability

I don't do anything more than I have to on paper. I can't tell you the last time I wrote an actual check.

For quite a while there have been banking and bill payment developments for the visually impaired. There is tremendous computer access for them to be able to use.
ATMs, computer apps, accessible computer or mobile devices, etc. Also, paying bills online has been a thing for everyone for years, with online bill payment.
As long as access isn't financially prohibitive, it's not something new or rare these days.
It's a fact of the present & future -- checks are being phased out entirely. Eliminating paper statements makes sense.

I dont get any statements in mail anymore from anyone, just more to shred.

Yes, and when I called customer service they abruptly said if I wanted to discuss this I could call the bank. I always pay my bill on time and in full. When I added up my EP over the next few months it only came to $225 total. I could easily pay it and be done with them but they probably wouldn't get it right. I will stop shopping and just pay the bill until I owe them nothing.
For people who sign up for paperless statements, does this mean they have to pay online as well? I don't pay anything online or do any online banking.

@Pamita Paperless statements are better. You will get your bill in your email. Don't have to worry about it getting lost in the mail. I get nothing in paper anymore. Once you get used to it, You will love it.

@jackthebear. There are devices available and widely used by the blind that magnify text on paper to a large TV screen. My dad had one as he could never have used a computer or tablet.
I'm sure there are other disabilities that would prevent keyboard use in addition to blindness.

I look at my statements online. I don't want all the paperwork I will waste time shredding.
You can go to your account online to print your own statement free. No way would I pay them $1.99 per month for it?
I want the interest rate to stay up so I can make money on cds. LOL!!!

I pay my bills in total and online. Still, I want origional paper statements.
Some individuals haven't internet service, haven't a cell phone and may have limited income. They shouldn't have to pay to receive a paper statement.
