Re: Anyone Spending Thanksgiving Alone?

@aroc3435

Every day, I thank God for giving me a beautiful house in a great area --- because I also realize that so many people are suffering - with medical problems - financial problems or family problems.

@kivah  Enjoy yourself.  I will probably watch holiday movies and may turn on the Macy's parade which is always spectacular with entertainment.  Have a wonderful day.

This year I actually do have a sister to go to but I am not looking forward to it.  The last time I went I was raked over the coals because of a difference in opinion over nonsense from a new family member.

I coud not believe the disrespect and ill manners towards me which was new and I never went back.  My sister did have the good graces to apologize as I left that day but not what I am here for.

I honestly envy those of you who know you'll have a peaceful day.  This may sound strange but I am going to miss not being alone on Thanksgiving.

Fingers crossed for you -- maybe some of the rough edges will have smoothed out over the year...

Re: Anyone Spending Thanksgiving Alone?

I'm spending Thanksgiving with my youngest son. I'm really looking forward to it. He loves to cook & bake, & he's been so busy with school & work, that it'll be nice to spend some quality time together.; just the two of us (& our dog, Bear!).

@bootsanne

Going to the casino sounds like the best plan!  Years ago after all the company left both Thanksgiving & Christmas we'd clean up & and off to all nighter in Atlantic City.

We had this as our celebration for many years😁

Enjoy & win big!

(I actually counted the minutes til everyone left...here we are alone -- no family or friends left -- if we both weren't sick I know where we'd be going🎰🎰🎰)

Re: Anyone Spending Thanksgiving Alone?

I've been alone on all holidays the past 3 years.  Althought I'd prefer to be having fun with my family in Pa., it's not terrible or depressing to be alone.  For a couple of years a friend and I went to a near-by casino that has a wonderful buffet, but my friend died.  I don't want to go alone.

I'll cook a bunch of chicken breasts tomorrow in my PC and on Thursday I'll make my crockpot chicken and dressing which I love.  I'll make a pumpkin pie and fix a vegetable.  I'll eat very well.

Crockpot Chicken and Dressing

1 whole chicken, cooked, boned and chopped
1 6oz pkg stuffing mix (Pepperidge Farm type)
1 large onion chopped
1 cup chopped celery
3 eggs beaten
1 10 oz can cream of chicken soup
2 cups chicken broth
1-1 1/2 tsp poultry seasoning
1/2 tsp salt
1/ 4 tsp pepper
2 Tbsp butter cut in small pieces

Grease crockpot.  Combine all ingredients, top with butter.  Cook covered on high 3 hrs.  Do not remove lid during cooking.  Serves 10

This is a wonderful side to fix with turkey (without the chicken).  It tastes like the dressing served in cafeterias or baked inside the bird; It's very moist.

Re: Anyone Spending Thanksgiving Alone?

I am going to a friend's house to spend time with her family, but will then come home after a couple. But, I am already thawing a turkey breast and will make the complete dinner (stuffing, corn casserole, apple salad, and pie) on Friday. Her husband is smoking the turkey, which I don't care for. So, yes, it will be a lot of food, but I enjoy the traditional meal and it makes me feel closer to my parents, who both passed away in the last two years.

Re: Anyone Spending Thanksgiving Alone?

No, but I have before.  I live 1000 miles from family.  It's too much going for both thanksgiving and Christmas.  I would give my mother the choice of which holiday I should come. Sometimes I went out, sometimes I didn't.  I really didn't enjoy spending the day with someone else's family.  I was happier staying home alone.  For those that don't enjoy that, start new traditions.  It's a little late for this year, but not too early for thinking about next year.  Happy thanksgiving to all.
