Isn't there a main computer 'off' switch, for when computer 'things' go wrong? I know, I'm not very smart/knowledgeable when it comes to planes.

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).

There is an auto-pilot switch, that the pilot can turn on or off.

There have been reported cases where the pilot could not turn off the computer. This has been an on going debate between pilots about the differences between the Airbus and Boeings.
