Spain is pretty close to current terrorist activity, so that was my first thought.

It's not related to the accident, in general, I wonder how they know the hours a pilot flies, so they don't fly exhausted. I would never presume to know what caused this or point a finger of blame at anyone. It's a horrible thing to happen, and it makes me feel very bad for all concerned. That's all.
Pilots are not even eligible to fly after a certain amount of hours are logged, in general.

There was a lot of misinformation and conflicting reports right after the crash. At the press conference just held in Germany they said there was no distress signal sent by the plane nor did the pilot transmit by radio. French Air Control confirmed this and said the distress call was issued by French air control when the plane dropped off their radar. Now there is conjecture that this may mean the pilot and co-pilot were somehow incapacitated. They had 8 minutes of descent time and yet never made a call nor sent a signal.

If it was bombed, it would still take a while to crash from that high an altitude.

Exactly, terrier. They said it took about 8 minutes to come down and the experts said that there should have been some sort of call or signal from the plane unless the pilots were physically unable to communicate. Troubling.

Our current fleet of planes worldwide is getting pretty old. Like cars, they are breaking down. The US fleet is the oldest in the world, with planes up to 25-30 years old.

8 minutes with no contact during descent? Hopefully the black box can point investigators in the right direction.
