Re: Animal crackers' animals "freed" as boxes get new look

I’m wondering what will this mean for the bear on my Teddy Grahams and the Pillsbury Doughboy?

People get worked up about insignificant stuff like a box design and kids go hungry in this country.

That's a real problem.  People just want to ease history and act like it never happened, or change the world in a painting and feel good about doing something?

Feed or clothe a kid, pay to neuter a feral animal.  Do something that means something and makes a difference.

There's no reason to think that people who see this as a good move don't also do more than their share by contributing to charities that benefit children, animals, whoever needs help, and by rolling up their sleeves and doing the tough work that goes along with making the world a better place.

It's perfectly possible to see this box design change as a good thing, and also put blood, sweat, and tears into volunteering at soup kitchens, organizing charity events, raising money for sick children, being active in campaigns against animal abuse, etc.

One does not cancel out the other.

I do too.  And people are talking about it, which is a good thing.  It helps to raise awareness.  Nothing wrong with it at all, and progress in the right direction!

Oh, people are talking about it all right but it ain't the box they're talking about.  I think they're talking about the ideology of a segment of society today that can feel honest to God good because there are no bars in front of animal characters on a silly box of crackers.  That's plain cuckoo to me but hey, if it works for you, that's all that matters.  Smiley Wink

I hope she gets back to me on that cause I really am curious.  I've never heard of giving insects run of the house but, there's a first time for everything.  (This thread is evidence of that.)

I disagree.  I think most people are not viewing it that way at all.

The changing of the box doesn't bother me...it's a good marketing ploy for Nabisco.  A whole generation of children who never heard of them are getting exposured to them and Nabisco is getting free publicity.

The following poem was read to me by my first grade teacher.  I loved it and memorized it.  I still recite it to my children and grandchildren.  I hope it makes you smile no matter what side of the box debate you're on.

Tony, the Tiger
Toucan Sam
Sonny, the Cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs Bird
The Smacks Frog
Charley, the Tuna
The Trix Rabbit

And we can't forget -
The Energizer Bunny

@dex  And stuck in zoos.

@Cakers3

With hunters and poachers even invading wildlife preserves, and wars going on in many of the countries where the animals live, and destruction of natural habitats, zoos are the only way some of the species can survive without harm.  Zoos are modernized and animals arent kept in small cages anymore ............

I agree with you about product testing that needs to stop.... That issue would have been something more important to pursue than packaging of crackers....

@Spurt  I understand but in my post I indicated that not all zoos are created equal.  There are still zoos/animal displays where animals are, indeed, still caged.

Or tied by their feet to a short chain.  I've seen it.
