A lady I know who is a Travelmation agent (one of thos Disney agents) just posted that it's a great time to take a cruise because prices are low. Gee ... ya think? I can't believe how irresponsible and idiotic people are. I wanted to comment "thanks but no thanks" or "you first!"

Indeed.

And this morning I heard that you can get Broadway show tickets REALLY REALLY cheap now so it's a GREAT time to see a show!

Guess it's a GREAT time for all those people who think COVID-19 is no big deal and "way overhyped!"

@Hoovermom are you ok with being quarantined if someone tests positive on the ship?  That would prevent me from going.  It would be awful stuck in a cabin that long.

@Snoopp   Yes, I have to be in order to go.  We have a great room with a balcony, and DH could relax a little more after losing his job next month.

The hospitality, tourism, and entertainment industries are hurting. I can't bring myself to really blame them for trying to save themselves. It's short term thinking, but some businesses are spread so thin that they can't absorb this hit. It's understandable that they are desperate for customers. But it also makes them less trustworthy sources.

CDC.gov

COVID-19 and Cruise Ship Travel

  • CDC recommends travelers, particularly those with underlying health issues, defer all cruise ship travel worldwide.
  • Sustained community spread of respiratory illness caused by COVID-19 has been reported in many countries.
  • Cruise ship passengers are at increased risk of person-to-person spread of infectious diseases, including COVID-19.
  • Older adults and travelers with underlying health issues should avoid situations that put them at increased risk for more severe disease. This entails avoiding crowded places, avoiding non-essential travel such as long plane trips, and especially avoiding embarking on cruise ships.

Re: And we have another cruise issue

The amazing thing to me is how people KNOW what is going on, have chosen up sides and are engaged in battle.

I don't hear many saying we don't really know how this is going to shake out and it pays to be cautious but I'm going to consider this and take precautions until we really know otherwise.

It seems real facts, which remain to be seen, play little role in deciding whether to sanitize everything or say to heck with it I'm not worried at all.  I

Travel is a big part of my work and leisure, but have put flying or cruising on hold at this time.  I can work from home, and find other fun things to do, will reassess in a month or so.

Our governor declared a state of emergency today, but my decision was already made.

My brother has a cruise set next month. He says he's going. I told him that's stupid but good luck when you get stuck on the ship. He's almost 67 but pretty healthy. His wife went through cancer so her immune system is not what ones should be. You could not pay me to get on a floating petri dish.

LOL . . . this is exactly what I've been thinking.  I've never been on a cruise and don't think I'm interested.  They previously had the norovirus and now this.  And you can see how things spread.

Re: And we have another cruise issue

I think it's important for people to read what the Department of State has to say about cruising, as was posted above.  That has more to do with what can happen with the cruise, health aside.  Not being able to go to some ports, being stuck on the ship, getting off the ship and not being able to get back on, etc.  They are basically telling people don't expect that the US Government is going to be able to assist you in getting you home.

@Drythe, anyone I know that has to travel for work, isn't.  All travel has been suspended.

Re: And we have another cruise issue

Honestly, I never wanted to be on one of those floating petri dishes before this particular virus, I really don't know why anyone would even consider it right now that we have added this one on top of how many people were getting sick from other things in the past.

I say if anyone is going to take the risk, don't whine when you are sick, quarantined, kept out at sea, or sent to required on land quarantine sites upon return.

Not something I would want to risk right now. It's not like this isn't going to pass in a few months, and life gets back to normal. What's the big deal with waiting, I don't know.
