I participated there in its early days and it was rather fun and lively for awhile.

It definitely was ugly when the election season started, but I tried to stay out of any of those "discussions."

I also remember voting posters out!  I think "terrier3" was the first.

Private boards with sole private moderation can be unpleasant.  At least here the moderators are generally professional.

I'll stick with the TCM Forums for movies and Primetimer, which doesn't allow politics (like here) and has zero tolerance for comments against other posters (unlike here.)

Yes.  I don't actually know any young people, but I have felt that they moved on from Facebook a while ago, from things I've read and heard.

I don't think having a Facebook page is going to draw them in.

I have two young adults, neither have any interest in Facebook and certainly no interest in QVC.

As much as I love these and will miss many of you who are friends to me, I have no interest in facebook for these forums.

And since I hear about everything I buy from QVC this way, I will simply kiss it good bye. I think they will be shocked at how much is sold through this medium.

Yeah, I was just thinking about how if I didn't come to this board I would totally forget about QVC and probably not even buy because I really don't watch at all anymore.   The kitchen/food stuff is mostly what interests me and I always forget to watch the shows.   Coming to the board is the only thing that reminds me about making purchases.

I totally agree with you and posted about this earlier.  There is little incentive to visit qvc now.

I also think it is perhaps a view of newer/younger management that the elderly don't really count.  And that a lot of us are elderly, so go ahead and wipe it out.  It's just old people.

I really wonder what percentage of young folks shop at QVC.   I could be totally off-base, but I feel like it's probably pretty small.  I would be pretty shocked if the younger audience is tuning in, in big numbers at all.

And isn't the younger generation leaving FB for other social media sites?

@tansy I believe that is true.  Maybe the high school kids are using facebook, but the young professionals are not flocking to it like they used to years ago.

Young is relative. I think older Millennials and GenX use Facebook a lot. People 60+ are probably not as active on it.

What if QVC gave the Forums an item number and charged $2.00 a month for access?

How many people do you think would sign up?

@PickyPicky3

Now that's an interesting idea.  Wonder if QVC would go for that?  You're definitely a creative problem solver! Why not post that in the QVC Suggestion Box?

Thats a Great Idea !!!    I'd go for that , I'm thinking many of us would !!!

I'll give it a shot. I've been on FB for years, so it's not a big deal.

I'm concerned about a half dozen people I've "known" for over a decade. They aren't online a lot and was hoping to be able to connect with them before November. I coyly left clues to my contact info, but my post was deleted. I believe it was reported, which makes me feel less sad about the forum's demise.

Thinking maybe at the 11th hour I'll out myself and let the chips fall where they may.

@PickyPicky3   If our membership is free to shop I would not pay to post on the forums.

It should be a one and done deal overall.

Sad to see this.  Here, it's a small, initmate, group, and with the different topics, it allows you to interact with people who share similar interests, as well as being QVC customers.  On FB that will be gone as I doubt there will be specific topics to choose from but will be one, big, free for all.  Also gone will be the venting, requests for help with things, personal relationships that built up over time,  requests for your experieces with issues that get discussed here, etc.  I believe people will be less willing to share some experiences to an international audience vs this small group. FB was initially  intended for people to keep in touch with each other but has become nothing but ad, after ad, after ad and I don't need anymore ads.  Another brilliant idea from the powers that be! :smileysad:
