@Cakers3  Amazon has never charged a return fee for prime members when picking up the package.  So, this is a first for  me.  I did not receive a notification for this change in policy.

@CLEM  Without knowing all the details of this transaction none of us can really tell you why you were charged.

My suggestion is for you to get in contact with Customer Service.

We can only share our own experiences which may not match yours.

Between various sellers, carriers, drop off stations, defective merchandise, etc. there are quite a few variable which can affect the return.

Eligible product(s) must be returned using a trackable shipping method. Please contact our Customer Service or visit our online returns center and we will guide you through the process. We offer two options to return eligible product(s):

  • UPS drop off option: You can drop off your return at the authorized UPS location of your choice. There is no charge for this option.
  • UPS pickup option: UPS will pick up your return at the address of your choice. If you choose the UPS Pickup option and if the return is not a result of our error, you will be charged a convenience fee of $6 for the UPS Pickup.

Re: Amazon Prime Members Beware

I’m unlikely to ever need a package I’m returning to be picked up regardless of the company it was purchased from.

Love Amazon.  Their customer service is great.  I've only had to return two items - one was defective and the other was a wrong item.  Didn't have to pay to return either.

@sunshine45Thanks for posting this.  That makes me feel better.  Now I can just drop things off at UPS which is only one block away from me.

Pardon if I included your name in this discussion in error.

For the first time (that I know of) a return fee was deducted on a package. I really have not been checking, but I am a frequent returner. This recent box for which we were charged was for PLAYDOH, which can be heavy. There was no indication that there would be a return charge.

We do spend thousands per month with Amazon Smile.

DH took the package to a UPS drop off site.

@LTT1, I should have added to my post that regardless if an item says "free returns" or not, I always "chat" with Amazon to make sure that I will not be charged for return shipping. I've had 100 percent success with that even when a item didn't specify that it had free returns.

I "chat" so that I will have a record.

Re: Amazon Prime Members Beware

Honestly if you are returning THAT MUCH that the return charges are a concern.....

then Amazon Prime is not a good fit for you.  I have never had to return anything and I have ordered LOTS of product.  Why are you returning so much?

Rethinking your renewal because of the return policy?....I think all the other benefits outweigh this one...but ok!
