I have just discovered that Amazon charges $6.00 for picking up return packages. You can drop your package up at a drop off location for free.
I would not have a problem taking it to a UPS location which is 3 minutes away from me, but I don't think you can. I have to think about renewal of my prime membership.

I have taken my returns to the UPS STORE....in our mall and never been charged a fee. It's been a couple months since I've returned anything so maybe that's changed...DW

@CLEM ??? If you use a return label your refund wll hav that charge deducted-just like the Q deducts the return shipping fee from your refund.
If your item is damaged or any fault of Amazon, then even using the label you will not be charged the return fee. However, you have to notifiy Amazon of why they are responsible before you ship your package back.
Amazon will send UPS to your house with a prepaid label but returns are not free unless your item is defective.

Hi @CLEM-----I have been a prime member since 2011 and I spend literally thousands of dollars a year on Amazon purchases. Fortunately, I have never had to return anything.
I thought, though, returns were just a matter of printing out a label and the shipping cost was deducted from your refund. I also thought you could drop off the package at a UPS store......Don't many of the major retailers charge for an at-home pickup ?

I've only returned one item. This doesn't matter to me. I get much more from my membership than the amount I pay.

@Cakers3 Amazon has never charged a return fee for prime members when picking up the package. So, this is a first for me. I did not receive a notification for this change in policy.

I'm with esmeraldagooch: the benefits of Amazon Prime outweigh paying a fee for returns (I very rarely need to return anything).

@Danky I used to take the return package to the UPS store, but some time ago, this was changed and they either picked up at your home or at some drop-off location (which is hard for me to get to). Besides, UPS comes to my building (high rise) several times a day.
I am aware of different retailers having their own policies.

We're prime members and do return fairly often. We have never been charged for return shipping. I slap a UPS label on it and drop it off at our local UPS store (where we also keep a box for business mail). I always ask for a receipt just in case I should have to prove that I did mail it back.
I love their return system.
