@MyGirlsMom wrote:I read a news report tonight that hinted Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity may also leave the network following Roger Ailes.
I've watched Bill O off and on for years and I was kind of taken back by his comments about Montel Williams who "cowardly" and "unprofessionally" refused to go the air "because of some gay thing" a few days ago (according to Bill O). He can go on tangents at times, and it was interesting to watch it unfold then read Williams's response the next day. I wondered if O'Reilly talked like that because it was live and there were no edits, or if he spoke that way because he's ready to cut ties with the network and doesn't care what he says, or if that's just his charming personality. Seems like I remember people bailing on his show in the past, and he went on and on about it calling them a "coward," but the reasoning didn't sound as harsh as "some gay thing."

I'm glad you appreciate my knowledge of television. But don't ask me about brain surgery - I don't have a clue!
I hope you will look it up on Bill's site, where I got the information. It was very accessible to everyone.

He is receiving 40 million dollars with a non-compete agreement for life.
Time to retire, Roger.
Although his wife is probably not making life at home very pleasant now!
If you read his letter it's obvious that he is still working for them as an advisor.
That's a formality. They actually don't want his advice, but he can walk off with his 40 million, minus legal fees and "save face."
He also was banned from the NewsCorp building - so I guess he will have to phone in his "advice."
Why are you reaching to think this is something other than a complete, sudden sacking?
That's what enquiring minds want to know.

I'm not reaching for anything, I don't care one way or the other. I'm just passing on what I read from a link in another thread online.

I have to say that I never really liked Steve Doocy and don't think he is that good. With Fox hiring his son just out of college, that seemed a bit odd, though I think Peter does very well.
I have watched Fox News for years. Frankly for me, just the fact that the always young, thin and pretty women wear short, sleeveless dresses year round, NEVER pants, is enough for me to think a sexist man is at the helm.
I agree about the short, sleeveless dresses, I think it is ridiculous. Did anyone see Meghan Kelly last night? All you could see was two spaghetti straps. There should be more respect than that. Greta Van Susteran doesn't dress like that. I think she looks very professional.
@Patriot3- Peter Doocy was not being sued. GC felt she worked in a hostile work place when she worked with him because of his dismissive attitude and minimizing her contributions to their program. He was not accused of sexual harassment but it is part of her complaint because she reported it to Ailes who in turn gave her a new program. The lawsuit is against Ailes only, not Fox or Peter.
@Stray: I did not write the original post, Puppy lips did. I wrote the reply about the short, sleeeveless dresses.
@Patriot3- I'm sorry....
Forgiven!

Saying he is going to be an "advisor" is code for "You're fired" - don't let the door hit you on the way out.
Speaking of "You're fired", rumor has it he is going to advise the guy who trademarked that phrase.

@JaneMarple wrote:If Roger was innocent of these allegations then why would he leave such a high powered job? He'll never have so much power again, who's going to hire him?
uh, he would be hired as a consultant easily - he has his finger on the pulse of a certain market profile that is quite lucrative - even at age 76. personally i was never a fan of Carlson - very opinionated and at times testy. now she may have a problem getting hired, i'm guessing. but we'll see. i didn't hear anything about her getting a settlement. but that may be premature.
He took the 40 million in exchange for a non-compete in television news.
But he will be sharing "You're fired" stories with the man who fired people on TV.
Carlson didn't sue FNC - she had a clause against being able to do that. She sued Ailes directly - so she may end up with a chunk of HIS settlement (minus the money his lib lawyer Estrich got!)
Neither Fox nor Ailes will pay if Carlson is awarded damages. He is covered by D&O ( directors/officers insurance) which probably has a high deductible in that industry but the employer pays that as it covers all officers. It also pays lawyer fees as they are dispensed by the insurer. If Ailes hired additional lawyers on his own, he may be responsible but part of his settlement with the Murdochs, may have been for payment of all legal fees. The terms can not be disclosed so no one knows.

They had to pay him something. He did build this network. He does leave under a cloud, not as Giant in broadcasting.
