I am angry and very insulted. I feel it is MY choice who I want to donate to and not to be decided for me.
Just say "Merry Christmas" in response. They donated their own money. It's not worth getting upset over.
@PenneyT...that is exactly what I did. Unfortunately, she keeps bringing it up.I guess she expects more of a response.

Then she may be trying to bait you. Just repeat your thanks and change the subject. Take the high road, you'll never regret it!

Be gracious, no matter what gift you are given![]()

I would ask " who exactly is getting the tax deduction?" That may either end the conversation or the initiator's gift giving. No matter the answer, your point is made: it was no your gift!

Not to mention, how much you want to donate.

This time of year I donate to several worthy local charities in memory of, as well as in honor of, special people in my life. My in memory of donations go towards helping needy children, and veterans, and my in honor of donations often goes to a foundation that helps provide much needed special equipment for our local hospital. The foundation always sends a nice letter with all pertinent details, to the person I have honored, and she has always been very touched at the gesture. She in turn has had trees planted, supplied Christmas to a needy family, and purchased blankets for the elderly, in my honor. My friend is in Alabama, and I am in WV, and every year we look for a worthy local cause to donate to in honor of the other.

As to the OP's question - You've received great advice. If the item had been shipped directly to you from the retailer, I guess that's one thing. I would want to know so I could get it replaced for the recipient.
But since she shipped it to you, I guess it's just best to be gracious and not mention that some of it was destroyed as the others have said.
As to the other problem - I agree with the poster who said that your friend is passive-aggressive. Wow, to donate to a cause that you would not support, and she KNOWS you would not support it - that's just creepy-mean.
I guess you will know more than I how to respond, so I'll save what my response might be. But the bad part, as also already mentioned, is that you will probably be pelted with spammy stuff from this charity you never would have supported. That's like a double whammy times infinity. Does this person not like you , or is she just basically a nasty person? Or is she just ignorant?

First of all, to the OP, I apologize. I did not mean to hijack your thread.
@chickenbutt...this is a relative. I don't think her elevator goes all the way to the top floor, as she has done weird things before.
