I just checked the monetary donations raised so far for ALS research. On Tuesday, the total was 22.9 million; Wednesday, the total was 31.5 million. On behalf of my friend diagnosed with ALS last fall, and so many others, I'm so grateful to everyone who donated for their generosity. The response has been awesome. I can't wait to check on today's total. I hope the money raised can go far in finding a cure for this horrible disease.

Just wondering if these are actually money collected totals or pledge totals?

I hope people do follow through.

The total last night was $53 MILLION - don't know if that's pledges, actual donations, or how they're supposed to be collecting it. Hopefully we'll know eventually how much it actually raised in real dollars.

Since it's literally TRIPLING every time a participant issues a new challenge...it's still gaining momentum!

Thanks everyone. It just gave me pause for thought when I saw that photo. My friends, sons and sister in Napa are not watering their yards this year. No flowers and no tomatoes either which is sad to me.

Oh NO. Brown grass and no tomatoes. I live in California too. This drought affects our livelihood as ranchers and farmers. So I will sell a cow and use the water that that cow would have needed for a day to throw MY bucket of ice. I would have sold them ALL to save others from the horrible death that my mother suffered.

I am sorry and I admit that this hits close to home for me. But the arguments that I am hearing just don't compute for me. Dead grass or dead mother? Easy decision for me.

I am very sorry to hear about your mother and you never have to apoligize for what you believe in! Some people just don't "get it". No one knows what a person has gone through with something like ALS unless they have been there themself. I took care of my mom with Alzheimers for 4 years and never wished that on anyone!

Thank you for your kind thoughts. I understand perfectly what you are saying about your mother. Alzheimer disease is another one that hasn't made much progress as to treatment. I am sorry for your loss and the years that you and she had to endure before she passed. {#emotions_dlg.wub}

Re: ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

My wonderful sister died of ALS five years ago. I didn't know very much about this vicious disease until she became ill and was diagnosed with it. I'm so glad it's getting the publicity that it deserves. Please do anything you can to help find a cure.
