Yeah, I think everyone has gotten the dramatic message by now. Maybe it wouldn't hurt to scale back some.

I'm happy for all the recognition gained and money earned for the devastating disease, ALS. We had a good friend die of this after suffering too long. But I imagine it does look wasteful to some other parts of the world. All my family is in California and on water rationing. My sister who is usually game for anything like this said no and just made a donation.
Hi MrsSB, We're not on strict water rationing up here. The only instructions are not to use water from a hose to wash down any hard surfaces, like a deck or the street, and to use a hose with a shut-off nozzle when washing cars.
In past times, it's been stricter for Southern California because most of the water came from the north and they were wasting it refilling pools.

I think Pamela Anderson can do whatever she wants. People may not agree with it but it's her right.
There are other charities she can donate to that are more in line with her way of thinking.

I think it's a great way to spread the message and get donations for ALS. The schools here are challenging the other schools.

I do understand those with serious drought issues in this country not wanting to "waste" water with this, but in reality, water is never "wasted". The water supply in the world is constant, it just changes form and moves around, so in areas that have plenty of water, this is not an ecological crime, like some are making it out to be (not directed at anyone who has posted here so far!)
My son just took the challenge today, and we will be donating as well. I think that this is something that is fun, gets attention, and raises money quickly for a good cause, but some media reports now are making sure the nay sayers try to tarnish something that is doing so much good.

Thanks everyone. It just gave me pause for thought when I saw that photo. My friends, sons and sister in Napa are not watering their yards this year. No flowers and no tomatoes either which is sad to me.

You are right to take pause with that picture, as it drives home just how much we really have here, even in places that are suffering with water issues right now. I think perhaps more important than people (not you!! but those in the media I have seen in the last several days) chastising those doing the water challenge, would be for the ice bucket water challenge to motivate them to do something to help get water to places in the world where it is critical and people are dying because of lack of clean water. If someone was creative to come up with this challenge for ALS, someone who sees things like this could use their creativity to come up with a campaign similar to bring awareness and relief to drought stricken areas needing water.
Google waterbrick international and waterhog systems for some examples.

Kudos to Pamela Anderson and those like her. There is never a good reason to torture animals.

The amount of water in the bucket is less than a toilet flush.
Jeeze.

Hmmmm. Let's see. What is more important? A bucket of ice or a life. A bucket of ice or a life. Yep. I could use that bucket of water to flush my toilet or save a life. SUCH a hard decision.
