I just checked the monetary donations raised so far for ALS research. On Tuesday, the total was 22.9 million; Wednesday, the total was 31.5 million. On behalf of my friend diagnosed with ALS last fall, and so many others, I'm so grateful to everyone who donated for their generosity. The response has been awesome. I can't wait to check on today's total. I hope the money raised can go far in finding a cure for this horrible disease.

It will be interesting to see if other worthy charities follow this example and start issuing challenges.

My teenage son did it, and donated his own money. ![]()
My husband is next!

As I stated on the other post, my cousin died from ALS and left behind 7 children.
It's a devastating disease.
I donate every year.

Just read at TheDailyBeast.com that Pamela Anderson declined the challenge. The reason stated was that the organization utilizes testing on live animals in it's research. She is a well-known animal-rights activist.

There's more than one ALS organization she could have donated to, or even support groups.

Perhaps Pamela would feel differently if a friend or family member were diagnosed with the disease. I agree, she could have donated to a support group(s).

I think maybe those in drought stricken California could consider skipping the water wasting part and go straight to the donation.
I'm happy for all the recognition gained and money earned for the devastating disease, ALS. We had a good friend die of this after suffering too long. But I imagine it does look wasteful to some other parts of the world. All my family is in California and on water rationing. My sister who is usually game for anything like this said no and just made a donation.

A large cup of ice water and a check would do nicely, just not as dramatic.
