I have to disagree with Connecticut being the worst state to travel through. I lived there years ago and loved every minute of it. On the weekends we would drive to neighboring towns that were beautiful and had the prettiest scenery. We lived near Westport, Darien,Redding, etc. The shopping was to die for. The only complaint was and is the tolls if you're on I-95. I also loved driving along the Merrit Parkway and Wilber Cross. Gorgeous in the Fall.
Another fabulous road trip is the Maine coast.

Huh??? Tennesee is on the worst list? I totally disagree with this. The state has some of the best roads in the country. When some states have expected non maintained, crumbling back country roads, those roads in Tennesee are ribbons of silk.

We use to travel the old Rt. 66, back in the day as they say. We've gone down Rt 1 in Ca thru Oregon too. But TN is a great place to go through. The upper Rt 2 thru Wisconsin and upper MI is a beautiful ride too. We always found some places interesting just by going through the states. I really like to explore, so each state has things that pop up and are interesting, not the everyday stuff. I wouldn't knock one state.

I was referring to TN, I think a different poster mentioned the toll roads.

Thanks for the posts! I just thought the WalletHub article (https://wallethub.com/edu/best-worst-states-for-summer-road-trips/4648/) is interesting and it does go in depth into the way they made the determinations. Too much to post.
Plus it gives good tips for travelers. Thanks again!

I agree with Oregon being #1 on the list.
It's a beautiful state and one of my favorites. I lived there for ten years, so I could be biased. ![]()
Highway 101 down the coast is spectacular, but so is I-84 East through the Columbia Gorge, and then on to the Wallowa Mountains, and the towns of Joseph and Wallowa.
Or the drive from Portland to Bend (forget the road number.)
And many in between.

I can't believe that Missouri wasn't on the best list. Missouri is a beautiful state and great highways.

@Sister Golden Hair ITA. Lots of great scenery. I love traveling through the Ozarks on the four lane highway to Springfield and on to Branson.

@Sister Golden Hair I also live in the 'Show Me' state. I think there's plenty to see and enjoy.
