@jackiejenny, I was born and raised in beautiful East Tennessee, and I couldn't agree more about what you said. The only drive I found to be boring is between Jackson and Memphis... those are the longest miles ever and I've driven that many a time.. but my heart will forever be in the great Volunteer state...... my Tennessee.. ![]()

Thank you and I have to apologize for mispelling Tennessee. Spelling used to be my strong suit believe it or not, so when I re-read my post, I was mortified. Anyway, my husband was an avid motorcyclist and Tennessee was his favorite state to ride in and he rode all over the country. I love that you still hold your home state in your heart!

Lol! I don't really see it as a bad thing, to have a state on the "worst" list. Mine rates high in some areas, low in others, but I have to say I breathe a sigh of relief as summer comes to an end, and the tourist traffic starts to ease up.

@Suziepeach Where are you from in East Tennessee? My family lived in Oak Ridge during the WW II years, then we moved back later and my dad taught school there while he got his Masters from UT in Knoxville. Later we lived in Greeneville awhile. My parents loved Tennessee.
Funny, I've never run across another person who lived in Oak Ridge during the war.

Good Job Northwest!
I live in Washington. Besides Oregon, Washington and Idaho, are also in the top group!
All three States have some beautiful places, to visit!
The wonderful Oregon and Washington coasts, are well known. Less familiar, probably, is the Idaho Panhandle. The States's three largest lakes, are all in the Panhandle. Pend Oreille (pond oray), Coeur d Alene, and Priest Lake(my favorite)are all stunningly beautiful. Priest is the most remote, the least developed. Surrounded by the Selkirk Mountains, it's just gorgeous.

@Kachina624, I am from Elizabethton, not very far from Greeneville at all. Beautiful area I must say. How nice to know we have some sort of connection. I had a teacher in high school that went to Oak Ridge to teach and coach football. Gosh it's been years and years since I've seen Oak Ridge.

@jackiejenny, it's easy to leave a letter out when spelling Tenese. LOL .. just teasing with ya. I will agree it's a favorite place of many with motorcycles.. what a feeling hearing all those engines up in the Smokies. When we travel from here to there, we try go the back way up through NC, back way into Gatlinburg and on into Knoxville, that is when the tourist trade isn't so horrible you can't get through Pigeon Forge in less than 3 hours on the parkway.. but I love it and yes I do hold my home state very close to my heart... You know, I do bleed orange!!

Ohhh, I have been stuck in that Pigeon Forge traffic more than once! You just learn to go to Gatlinburg during less busy times of the year. Yes, the Smokies and the Blue Ridge parkway was a favorite among motorcyclists and who can blame them? I understand the bleeding orange thing, as we are originally from Indiana and of course still bleed red. I have a neighbor who is a HUGE Tennessee Vols fan and tolerates my love of IU!

I think Hawaii should be on the 'Worst List'. Pick an island and then you just kind of drive around in a circle, LOL!![]()
Also our roads are really really very very bad. The one good thing about our roads though is that unless you are Oahu, there are no freeways at all. I do love that. I'm scared of freeways now and can't drive them when I go back home to the mainland.

@jackiejenny, after our last home football game we always would stay in Pigeon Forge and come home the next day but that stopped after we sat for over 2 1/2 hours on the Parkway trying to get to the Christmas Place Inn. We decided then no more, that we'd come home that way on a Sunday morning before all the campers and tourist headed into the Smokies.
Oh yes I understand completely your bleeding red, we never miss a home game in Knoxville and have started going to a few away games. I don't know if you heard but our Pat Summitt is very ill and not expected to make it. I do believe it's complications from her Alzheimers. It's been all over the news and there are articles at WBIR and KnoxNews. My husband and I are so sad. it's like losing a friend. We met her a few years back at a function on campus and wow what a sweet woman. We also donate to her foundation and our names are on a plaque in Pat Summitt Plaza on campus, along with several other donors for the plaza.. sorry to get off topic but a lot of us have heavy hearts today.. I mean she's a legend!!!! Go Lady VOLS!
