@MrsSweetieBear wrote:I think Hawaii should be on the 'Worst List'. Pick an island and then you just kind of drive around in a circle, LOL!
Also our roads are really really very very bad. The one good thing about our roads though is that unless you are Oahu, there are no freeways at all. I do love that. I'm scared of freeways now and can't drive them when I go back home to the mainland.
I have a cousin who lives in Kailua, so I have been to Hawaii many times. So many lovely things about the state, but that was the reason my husband said he could never live there....if on a motorcycle, you would do just as you said...ride around in a circle!
I hate that you are afraid to drive on freeways now, but understand how that could happen.

Ohhh, I have been stuck in that Pigeon Forge traffic more than once! You just learn to go to Gatlinburg during less busy times of the year. Yes, the Smokies and the Blue Ridge parkway was a favorite among motorcyclists and who can blame them? I understand the bleeding orange thing, as we are originally from Indiana and of course still bleed red. I have a neighbor who is a HUGE Tennessee Vols fan and tolerates my love of IU!
@jackiejenny, after our last home football game we always would stay in Pigeon Forge and come home the next day but that stopped after we sat for over 2 1/2 hours on the Parkway trying to get to the Christmas Place Inn. We decided then no more, that we'd come home that way on a Sunday morning before all the campers and tourist headed into the Smokies.
Oh yes I understand completely your bleeding red, we never miss a home game in Knoxville and have started going to a few away games. I don't know if you heard but our Pat Summitt is very ill and not expected to make it. I do believe it's complications from her Alzheimers. It's been all over the news and there are articles at WBIR and KnoxNews. My husband and I are so sad. it's like losing a friend. We met her a few years back at a function on campus and wow what a sweet woman. We also donate to her foundation and our names are on a plaque in Pat Summitt Plaza on campus, along with several other donors for the plaza.. sorry to get off topic but a lot of us have heavy hearts today.. I mean she's a legend!!!! Go Lady VOLS!
Yes, I am an avid basketball fan, so I have followed the legendary Pat Summitt's carreer. The word "legend" is tossed around a lot these days, but this sweet, talented lady is truely deserving of the title.
I completely understand why you and many others have heavy hearts when it comes to Pat Summitt. It's just been an incredibly sad situation and my heart goes out to all of you. Take good care...

@jackiejenny, thank you for your kind words. Yes ma'am Pat Summitt is a legend and especially in Tennessee.
Making a trip to Knoxville to visit the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame would make for a great road trip. So there ya go..

I agree! Depressingly boring. The whole state is like that. There's a movement by the way to make Texas a separate country....again. I say they're welcome to it.
Can't imagine living in TEXAS*.
I lived there for 28 years in the DFW area. I had a great job that gave me a great retirement but when I retired I left and moved further North so I could have 4 seasons again (grew up in North). There are parts of Texas that are quite pretty - parts of East Texas and the hill country around Austin, for example. There are also a lot of things to do & see all over the state all of the time. But, the heat in summer is unbearable particularly in an area like DFW that is all concrete & freeways and especially as I got older. As to the overall political environment there, I won't comment on that.

It is ridiculous for TN to be on the bad list. For example, there are beautiful drives through the Smoky Mountains. The scenery near Chattanooga, especially in the hills around the TN river, is also quite beautiful. Part of the Natchez trail is also in TN. Like all of these kind of lists, I just ignore, do my own research, and plan my own trips.

@songbird @Kachina624 @KALLIE As an "adopted" Texan yes north of Austin it's downright boring FLAT AS A PANCAKE, Houston area is awful....Austin and the hill country aren't bad....and west Texas is like being in a Cowboy movie it's kinda interest if you like desert scenery.....One thing is it takes a WHOLE DAY just to drive through the State....and I can attest there is ROAD CONSTRUCTION EVERYWHERE!!! ....At least my city doesn't have toll roads.....and there are historical attractions...
Personally I would not make a road trip in Texas in the summer---heat is unbearable....i would recommend the spring particularly Austin and South Texas when all the beautiful wild flowers are in bloom......October is a nice month too..
With oil prices down I don't see Texas going anywhere.....although with some of the things going on this country, sometimes I wish we would!-LOL!!!
I DO like TN and Vermont in the fall is beautiful......
BTW @songbird what state are you in ???????????

@scotnovel On our cross country trips I really enjoyed TN (it made my list of favorite states).....the Smoky Mountains, and other parts of the state scenery was nice....friendly people too........
Too me the industrial states were the most boring.....

I spent almost 35 years in Texas, first in Houston then West Texas. I absolutely hated Houston with a passion and won't go back, even to visit friends. That's okay because they're only too willing to visit me.
I don't think there's much to see and do there at all. When relatives visited me there, I didn't know what to do with them. Big Bend National Park is a joke if you've seen parks in Utah and Colorado.
Texas has a lot of really good people, and I'm sorry for those trapped there. There's just too much to dislike.

@nrm wrote:I have to disagree with Connecticut being the worst state to travel through. I lived there years ago and loved every minute of it. On the weekends we would drive to neighboring towns that were beautiful and had the prettiest scenery. We lived near Westport, Darien,Redding, etc. The shopping was to die for. The only complaint was and is the tolls if you're on I-95. I also loved driving along the Merrit Parkway and Wilber Cross. Gorgeous in the Fall.
Another fabulous road trip is the Maine coast.
I agree with you. We have relatives who live in Easton and Bethel, and the drive is so nice with beautiful scenery. Also, sometimes on a Sunday afternoon, we take a ride to West Haven along the coastline. In the summertime, there's a nice breeze. Refreshing.
