Just to clarify, the cops were not involved in a drug deal, the teens were.

The boys had bought what they thought was cocaine, but it turned out to be crushed aspirin.

They went looking for the man who sold it to them, couldn' find him, but found the dealers friend and took his backpack for their money back and a gram of cocaine.

Instead of paying the ransom, the man called police, who sent 2 officers to investigate the theft of his bag and the ransom demand.

When the police confronted the teens, the stabbing occurred.

Probably more to the story than we will know; the photo of one boy blindfolded in the police station was appalling, and the Italian police quickly admitted it was illegal to do so. They confessed, but hard to know yet the circumstances of that. They say they have the entire encounter on video, so that may seal their fate. Committing a crime in a foreign country never ends well. Doubtful even a high-priced attorney will be able to help them out of this.

I agree...there’s probably lots more to the story than being released.  

The action of stabbing is unusual.

When the form of killing is done within the victim’s personal space

(think stabbing, strangulation, cutting, etc)

that typically means the killer knew his/her victim.  

And to be stabbed 8 times?  

Seems overkill..like there was a personal grudge. 

My gut says we’ll never know the real story.

Who knows? OTOH, often a story is just a story -- no hidden meanings or conspiracies involved.

I think it started out to be something to do with drugs.  They had bought cocaine, and received crished asprin. The went out to demand money.  They said the police were in plains clothes and they were afraid.  Lame story

As Italy doesn't have the death penalty, I hope they rot in prison.

@shoekitty  Agreed, lame story.  The police identified themselves before the stabbing.  The entitled little brats were extorting the drug dealer (?)...in addition to being involved in drugs and theft...so of course they were afraid when confronted by cops.

Anxiously awaiting news of who raised these murderers.

I'm not appalled the (alleged) murderer was blindfolded.  So what?  The person murdered will never see again.  Hopefully if found guilty for their crimes they will both rot in jail the rest of their long lives.
