Re: What are You Reading? February 2019

i just finished Master of his fate by Barbara Taylor Bradford, I enjoyed it and just discovered it is a series, not sure if I will read any more, I have such a list of books, not sure I should start another series?

Next up  The Radium Girls by Kate Moore I am a bit behind but this has been very popular at our local library and have waited for some time, I have read some awesome reviews on this book, so looking forward to reading it!

@CareBears I really liked this book I found it fascinating,I don’t want to say anything, hope you will share your thoughts. It is a true story and an interesting statement of how long things remained the same.

Today is Feb 04 and i just finished The Only Woman in the Room by Marie Benedict.  It's a well-written historical fiction piece about Hedy Lamarr. I also read and enjoyed her two other published titles: Carnegie's Maid and The Other Einstein.  If you enjoy historical fiction and are looking for a new author, give one of Benedict's books a try.

Got my hands on an advanced copy of 'The Hunting Party' by Lucy Foley so will be starting that today. I'm way overdue for a good thriller so fingers crossed this one delivers!

This weather = lots of time for reading!

Here's what I finished:

A Picture of Murder by TE Kinsey - book 4 in a historical mystery series, and my first book sent to me through my Page 1. book subscription.

Bountiful and Overnight Sensation by Sarina Bowen - romance novels that were just ok...

Bibliophile by Jane Mount - a lovely illustrated book filled with literary treasures!

The Hangman's Daughter by Oliver Potzch - a historical mystery that was my library's Dec/Jan book club book that I forgot to read until Saturday... Book Club meets today --oops! AND I didn't really like it.

Five Feet Apart by Rachael Lippincott - a young adult novel about teens with Cystic Fibrosis. This hits close to home because I have a dear friend with CF.

Great review!!!

Roger Daltrey's Thanks a Lot Mr. Kibblewhite has been a fabulous read. It is an insightful firsthand look inside one of my all time favorite bands. It is a wonderful telling of life in post war England, to the swinging 60s, and on up to now.  Maybe because this is "my generation" I felt very connected to the story.

I can't wait to read this!

Re: What are You Reading? February 2019

At the moment I am reading The Snow Gypsy by Jane Ashford (Amazon First Reads or my February Prime read, forget which.  Also The India Fan by Victoria Holt (book club). By far I'm enjoying The The India Fan. It is my first Victoria Holt and I like her writing style.

Today is my first day back to work after three weeks medical leave. I read nine books!

  • The Lines we Leave Behind - Eliza Graham (four stars)
  • The Storyteller's Secret  - Sejal Badani (three stars)
  • One Hundred Years of Solitude - Gabriel Garcia Marquez (yuck - only finished for book club - .5 stars
  • Becoming - Michelle Obama (five stars)
  • A Killer's Mind - Mike Omer (three stars)
  • Elevation - Stephen King (five stars)
  • The Outsider - Stephen King (four stars)
  • True Places - Sonja Yoerg (four stars)
  • Blood for Blood - Victoria Selman (four stars)

I loved Becoming. I was relieved that it wasn't all dry politics. The inside views of what it's like to live on the campaign trail and ilving in the whitehouse were eye opening. I admire her so much, and enjoyed reading her biography.

Re: What are You Reading? February 2019

I read November Road by Lou Berney.  I wasn't sure about it at first.  There is more mob stuff than I expected.  And linking this to the Kennedy assassination is sort of misleading.  Yes, it's there as a starting point for the book, but it's mainly in the background.  Most of it is a well written page turner. I enjoyed the plot about two people on the run for different reasons.  The writing is smooth and well paced.  But I wasn't a fan of the epilogue, which felt tacked on.
