Some suggestions for posting here:

~ underline, bold or CAPITALIZE the name of the book you're reading - it makes it easier for us readers to see what it is

~ include the author of the book - there are so many books with the same title (if you are recommending a book we want to make sure we read the right one!)

~ post a few words about the book - would you recommend it or not?

~ tell us the book genre - is it mystery, romance, historical, biography, etc?

Just finished "The Winter People" by Jennifer McMahon. A good old-fashioned ghost story. I enjoyed it. Now I am reading "Watching You" by Michael Robotham.

I have been enjoying a cozy mystery series called, The Cottage Tales of Beatrix Potter, by Susan Wittig Albert. I am currently reading book 6, The Tale of Applebeck Orchard.  I have read through the series before and I am enjoying the books again.

Currently reading:

The Circle, by Dave Eggers. I'm listening to the audio book and the narrator is doing a good job of upping the tension in some scenes. This is about a tech company that is overly concerned with transparency and social media to the point where they become very controlling. It's very engaging, but I'm at a point where it's making me very claustrophobic and tense. If it were a movie, I'd be shouting for the main character to run and get out of there.

Wayward,  by Blake Crouch. This is the second book in the Wayward Pines series and I'm reading this one on my Kindle and it's my Amazon Prime freebie.

Assorted: I've downloaded well over 100 samples onto my Kindle, so the past few weeks I've been reading through the samples and sorting them into a To Buy collection, a Buy Later collection for books I'm not sure about, and deleting any samples I decided I don't want.

Recently finished:

Pines, by Blake Crouch. The first book in the Wayward Pines series and way more brutal than the TV show.

But I Don't See You as Asian: Curating Conversations About Race, by Bruce Reyes-Crowe.  This is mostly a preaching to the choir book, because I don't think people who are clueless about race are going to pick it up. That said, I think it's useful to help us learn how to open that dialogue with others and have those difficult conversations with the people we'd like to add to the choir. It was an easy read with useful information and an accessible approach.

One of the things I really enjoyed about it was that it was funded by a Kickstarter campaign and the end of the book is filled with comments from the Kickstarter backers explaining why they funded this book. The comments are touching and revealing and I'm glad the author made them a perk and included them in the book. One of them ended with this: "Legislation cannot fix these problems, but conversations can."

I think that's the most important takeaway, that we cannot avoid these conversations because they're uncomfortable, we must have them if we want to affect real change.

If you are an animal lover, a good book to try is A Dog Named Leaf –written by a couple in Minnesota about their beloved rescued cocker – I think you will enjoy it (and it does not have a sad ending like so many animal stories do). The dog is still alive and well and goes along with the authors to the book signings. You can get it on Amazon in book or Kindle formats. This couple has written other uplifting animal-related books – that is their niche.

I just finished Last Night In Montreal by Emily St. John Mandel (of Station Eleven fame).  She is a fascinating writer.  The story is wistful and a little strange, but I thought it was very good.

THE ASSASSIN by Clive Cussler & Justin Scott. Next read.

T is for TRESPASS by Sue Grafton, Book for Book Club next month. Dective mystery.

I really like the books Kate Morton has written.  Can't remember the title of my favorite one but it had Garden in the title, maybe The Secret Garden or something like that, I recomment it.

I am still reading Moloka'i by Alan Brennert. I'm about half way through and am loving it. I'm going at it rather slowly this month as we are moving, and I have too much other stuff I should be doing besides reading and blowing off steam here!

I  think the last I posted just before the old board shut down and they lost THREE MONTHS OF THREADS, I was just finishing The Secret Life of Violet Grant.  Well I loved it.  What a great book!  Someone said Beatriz Williams has a new one coming out soon.  Hope so. 

Now I'm reading a book by an author, Robert Goolrick, I said I would never read again.  After encouragement from like minded readers/posters here though, I changed my mind.  I'm so glad I listened.  I'm about half way through Heading Out to Wonderful.  Really enjoying it.
