My heart hurt through the whole book. Those poor children.
This book has been nominated for a few awards. I want to read it, but I think I'll wait until the first of the year.

This evening I started The Long Winter by Laura Ingalls Wilder. I'm sure everyone is familiar with Little House on the Prairie, this is book #6 from the series. I've been reading mostly Christmas stories recently, and this was one on my TBR list. It's good.

Thanks to those who recommended The Marriage Lie. I read it this weekend and I thought it was excellent. I, too, found the ending unexpected. I highly recommend it.

Washington's Farewell by John Avalon. When I get into a person or a period of history, I read several books. I have come to truly appreciate and admire Washington and am enjoying this fresh take on his remarkable and timely farewell address.

I am finishing Britt-Marie Was Here. I must say I love her and hate to see her go. She is much like the lovable curmudgeon Ove, don't you think? And I am a little like her, altho I could never clean that much, hahaha. I am pretty sure I know who she's going to leave with, because I'm pretty sure I know her, but time will tell. I'm warming to Fredrik. What about his Christmas novella, has anyone read it? lori?

@Judaline, yes, yes, "The Deal of a Lifetime." I love it. LOVE. I gave it five stars on Amazon (easy enough to find my review). It is beautiful and breathtaking and while people complain in their reviews about the price of a book they can read in a half hour (it was a little longer for me because I really stopped to think about certain things he said, and then when I finished I opened back up to the first page and read it again, and I've read twice more since) -- I say this is a book to own and re-read.

"The Life We Bury" by Allen Eskens -- having some trouble getting into it and I know it's a beloved book. Please, wonderful ladies of the book forum, tell me what you thought of it? Did you love it? Did you slog through it or did it pick up like a rollercoaster? Thanks!

@LoriLoriI know I read this but it was so long ago, which generally means I liked it, it is the books I do not like that I remember, the good ones after awhile fade, why I do not know, but I have never claimed to be normal, I embrace my weirdness!

@LoriLori I just got off of the phone wiith my reading buddy, she refeshed my memory of this book, we both read it several year ago, but I did like it, if I remember the author lives in MN, I remember thinking it was tragic, but we both enjoyed it!
