And stop dyeing your hair?

Was it when you turned 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%  gray?

I was going to dye my hair today, but changed my mind .....

All of a sudden, I just don't want to do it anymore.

@RinaRina

I wouldn't ever personally color my own hair .....  I've seen too many harsh dye jobs that are difficult to look at; NOT a good look!

My father was 50% grey at 21, and I had white hairs and patches early on.  As a result, I went with medium ash brown with cool ash blonde highlights, always professionally done.

The upside to highlights is that as my hair grows out, it's really difficult to distinguish the blonde hairs from the white ones.   Lines of demarcation are difficult to spot, which is a good thing.  I only need to go for a cut and highlights touch up every 3 months.

Re: Your Gray Hair: When did you draw the line & stop?

I don’t think the percent of gray matters about when to color or not color.  It’s however you feel.  It sounds like you’re ready to stop, nothing wrong with that.  You can always try it and see how you feel.  I started getting a lot of gray in my 30’s.  Having gray hair never bothered me but my hairdresser was always trying to talk me into dying it.  I always said no until I was about 50.  I must have been in a weird mood so I let her do it.  Even though she used a gentle dye it wasn’t healthy for my hair so I decided to stop.  I was happy going back to gray and my hair is much healthier.  When I look back at photos I think my hair looks better gray than the dyed color.  Everyone is going to have a different perspective.

I stopped dying my hair when it just became a pain to keep trying to cover up the gray, maybe 50% gray at the time.  Funny thing is I get more compliments on my "pretty gray hair" than I did before lol.

Re: Your Gray Hair: When did you draw the line & stop?

I stopped having my hair colored when the color would no longer hold.  I was not willing to apply color every 10 to 15 days so I stopped.  After  all color is a chemical and I didn't want to chance losing hair.  Once my hair grew out it was a beautiful silver color.  Ref. signature line.  Will never use color again.

To me coloring my hair is like using make-up, it's fun and I like the way it looks. It doesn't define me, it makes me happy. We should all do what we want without judgement. It's just hair people !😻

Re: Your Gray Hair: When did you draw the line & stop?

I am a very secure woman and I know who I am.  I am very comfortable in my own skin and worked 45 years in a man's world, never feeling out of place or put upon because I was a woman.

I will never let my hair go gray.  I have very fair skin and really no wrinkles and a face and skin tone that would look horrible with gray hair.

So why would I want to go gray?  To prove a point?  No thanks, I'll keep my several toned cool blonde hair thank you very much.  I may let a little gray show through at some point, but some people look really awful in gray hair.

@on the bay  As a little girl my Mom always had white platinum hair. I never saw it any other way.   She was strikingly beautiful and always stood out!

I believe I was mid to late 50's.  I just got sick of coloring it.  I had my hair cut shorter than usual and it did not take long at all to grow out.  I am still salt & pepper.  My hair is healthy & shiny.     Cat Very Happy

My family doesn't get gray til after 90.    Not a joke.    However, I am a bleached blonde, and plan to stay that way.

Re: Your Gray Hair: When did you draw the line & stop?

I have gone gray in my 20's.  To say I am sick of it is an understatement.  However, that doesn't mean I am going to stop.  I have tried a lighter color and it just washes me out. I may stop coloring it when I stop working just to get a break from it but even then I am not sure.  I will have to see how I feel once I get there. It has to feel somewhat liberating though.

I know women older than me that haven't gone gray.  So lucky.

If you are ready, go for it.  You can always color it again if you don't like it.
