For those ladies who are really missing their salon visits, why not ask your stylist if she/he makes house calls or has her/his own home based salon. If color is the issue, buy a box of Clairol or Madison Reid (I'm thinking of brands with good customer support) and do it at home (I mostly used that method when I colored); you might be pleasantly surprised. I don't get have that problem, as our salons are still open (got the Grands haircuts today). My hair is grey and mid back; when I need to cut split ends, I part it wet, take half, twist it and take an inch off the bottom (really only get 3-4 cuts per year from my stylist).

I got my hair cut today. So far they haven't been told to shut the doors...whew! I color my own hair and bought 3 boxes of color last night. The cut grows out nicely. I think I'm good ![]()

When the salons re-open, we probably won't be able to get an appointment for weeks! Everyone will want to get their hair done immediately and those stylists will be swamped.
I drove passed a SuperCuts yesterday that was open. Usually there are only about 5 cars in their lot -- yesterday their lot was totally full, not one empty space. Everyone was getting a last-minute haircut, I guess.

I have been thinking about this for a while too. I have an appointment in early April but I really don't think I will go even if the salon is open. We had decided to highlight my hair very blond and see what happens when the gray comes in. Or do gray highlights. However, might not have to make that choice just yet. Only thing I am worried about is my hair grows pretty fast. The gray will be what it is but I don't want to look like a wild woman with half gray/half blond-brown overgrown frizzy out of control hair. Maybe we will all end up likeing our gray hair. I have a couple of neghbors with beautiful gray or white hair, just don't think I would be one of them.. But we need to be less concerned with our hair and more concerned about everything else going on. Hope all of you stay healthy.
@naturalfan For what it's worth, anyone thinking of using this time to see what their grey hair would look like: YouTube has many videos/tutorials about what to do to condition, style, expect while it grows out. So does Pinterest. If you're serious enough, Amazon should have the book I own called SILVER HAIR: A HANDBOOK by Massey....a lot of good info about styling, keeping the hair healthy, etc. The biggest surprise is it just doesn't go from the color you've been dying it to your shade of silver/grey/white. As it grows out, the dye is also washing off and wearing off, which leaves you with various shades of other colors + the grey roots...just to prepare you.

@Katcat1 wrote:I hope that the salons that closed are disinfecting their salons just like restaurants should do. A little bit of Lysol goes a long way.
@Katcat1 I'm not sure they'll have enough staff, but there's a dept. of health inspectors that make surprise visits to hair and nail salons & restaurants to check sanitation. They showed up at closing when I had a late haircut appt. I hope they could inspect all salons before they reopen...restaurants, too. Food left in frig., stoves/grills cleaned after not used for long times, salon drains, bathrooms in all, etc. Government may require a sanitation certificate before reopening.

@patbz I'm trying to keep people out of my house unless an emergency. I don't know who my stylist's been in contact with & rather not undo the entire point of my being self quarantined.

My hairdresser just called me & said they are closing tomorrow through April 6th. I rescheduled for 4/11. I guess we'll see what happens.

Hi, SurferWife
That's not bad because that's only around two weeks. Well approximately. We're in lock down. Nothing is open. Only super markets and places for take out food. No schools for the rest of the year, no bars, clubs, gyms, etc.

I don't know if its for my state only but my salon just informed me they won't be back until April 14 (as of today). Thank goodness I already have an appt for April 15.

I have a hair appt. April 8 and I have not been notified that my salon is closed. Nobody has called me. It is a small salon with about 4 stylists. When I go in I am usually the only one there because I go in the afternoon on a weekday.
