I know I had a thread on this 1 or 2 years ago but hair salons are charging $65 for a haircut and the stylist can't cut hair very good. I refuse to pay that much. I am retired with only my income. Okay, I was happy with my stylist and I paid $50 and the salon told me it would stay that way that we want your business. All of a sudden here comes a $5 increase. Well it's $5 today and 2 months from now another $5 or $10. I refused to pay it so it was goodbye. I have a haircut with a young woman who is trying to build her client base and saw her work on the Internet. She is charging $25. My appt. is early next week so I'll let you know the results.
What I am really trying to say is salons are charging $65 on average but the stylists are noit giving a $65 cut.

@Katcat1 Way too much. I pay $30.00. My stylist gives a great haircut. She has a large clientelle. That is why I have gone to her for 20 years....

In my area cuts start at $100 and go up from there! I hate to admit it but I end up leaving the salon paying well over $200----then you need to tip!! It would amost be less expensive to fly somewhere to get a less expensive cut lol lol
I bet you get a great one! All stylists start somewhere and newer ones really aim to please!!

@Mombo1 you are so lucky. When I lived in Chicago I had a stylist for over 10 years and then I moved way out in the burbs. Since that I have not had a stylist that lasts more than 2 or 3 years. I am trying to help this young woman to see if she can advertise in our senior only buildings for haircuts.

Well in case you haven't noticed the prices of everything is going up! Gas, Paint, Food, everything! It used to be calld the trickle down effect. Your hairdresser has to pay more for her supplies and daily living expenses just like everyone else.....thus the price increases. I suspect it's only the beginning.

@tessam Do you live in New York? I can imagine their prices. But when these mom & pa salons are charging high end salon prices, I say no. As long as you are happy that is what matters. You made me laugh when you mentioned flying somewhere else for a cut.

Yes, the price of haircuts has gone up. I go to Supercuts--have never gotten a bad haircut there--and the prices have increased. But it is still under $25 and they were closed for many months so I'm not complaining. I cannot imagine paying $100 for something which, in my case, needs to be done every 6 or 7 weeks. What an expense!!!

Mine charges $48.00 for a cut that includes shampoo, cut and style. I've gone to her for years and really like her.

I'm in the Northern Burbs of Chicago getting close to the Wisc border. I pay $40 and have for MANY YEARS. I bring my stylist a little gift every time I see her just because I like her a lot and enjoy sharing things with her. She's happy and I'm happy. She rents a space in a salon and is her own boss.

Totally understand that the cost of living is going up, but you can get a haircut from $10 to $100 around here. Great Cuts had a coupon on the back of our grocery receipt for an $8.95 cut. Although they say you get what you pay for, conscientious stylists could be working at any salon and you might be lucky enough to find them.
