Ulta is where my granddaughter always wants to go.

They are outrageously expensive but then so is all makeup.

I take her there because my daughter (her mother) won't let me pay for all she does for me.

I try to limit the visits to $100 but it always goes way over.

I understand about the OP being upset.  I think she was given good advice about contacting the credit card company and I'd contact the bank just to make sure.

The prices depend on the brands.  The higher-end brands are expensive, but they're expensive everywhere.  And saving the cost of shipping can make it worthwhile to go to an Ulta.  But they have lower-cost brands too.  Not everything in Ulta is expensive.

A regular cc such as Visa or MasterCard would help you dispute the charges but since this is an Ulta cc - they would side with ithe store?

sorry this is happening...hope it all works out

It actually should be a MasterCard.  I got one of those.  She told me I could call them and change it to a store card after I got it if I wanted to.  I may do that since I really don't need another MC and store cards are less likely to get hacked.

I've gotten to where I prefer Sephora over Ulta.  The last time I was in Ulta, I was blown away by all the Kardashian/Jenner displays at the entrance.

I hope they get it straightened out for you really soon @ChouChou .  Sorry you have to go through this, but I think it's really nice of you to take your grandchildren shopping like that.

@wildcat fan. we only have a mini sephora.  I was so excited to hear it was coming and then so disappointed when it opened and was only a small store.

I understand @Icegoddess .  Our Sephora is smaller than our Ulta, but the Sephora sales reps are so nice and helpful compared to our Ulta's.  I realize every location is different, but around here, I've really been impressed with the people working for Sephora.  They take the time to help me find the right shades, demo products and ways to apply, and offer to help me order online if they don't have it in stock.  It's small compared to Ulta, but I really like their personalized approach.

For me, it's the opposite.  I far prefer Ulta.  Unless you're in your 20's and adorable, the salespeople in Sephora act as though you're invisible.   There are some really nice, helpful (young) people working at Ulta.  At least the ones I've been to.

I was there just the other day.  They had IT Cosmetic displays at the front, as they usually do.  No Kardashians or Jenners.  Clearly, locations vary.

And yes, it was nice of @ChouChou to take her grandchildren shopping for their Mom.  It's such a shame that something so sweet turned into a royal pain like this.

I love shopping at Ulta, but there credit card department is the worse!!  It took months to correct their errors, multiple phone calls, and still each month the statements were wrong.  I finally paid off the balance and closed the account.  NEVER again will I open a line of credit with them.  I believe Synchrony is the credit company Ulta works through.  They are AWFUL!!

The bank they use now is Comenity. I'd never heard of it. I got the card in the mail but I will not activate it and will never use it again. I thought that it was a store credit card like Macy's or Kohl's. It's a MasterCard. I have certainly learned a lesson. I will pay it off tomorrow because I don't want to pay interest and I don't want to lower my credit score. I have pristine credit and I want it to stay that way!

When stuff like that happens in a store, I immediately cancel the sale and get my receipt.  Then, I will have it rerung up and take that receipt.

More work for them but less work for me in the long run.

The manager did cancel the sale with the help of the guy in IT. She gave me both receipts. That's why I'm so upset. I have proof and I showed it to them. As I said earlier, I am paying it off so they can't get any interest from me and if the cc company finds in my favor they can send me a check. I'm not going to ruin my credit or pay interest on this. I have certainly learned my lesson.

That's too bad that happened to you. I rarely shop in the store but I do order online several times a year and I have never had a problem. When I have had to contact customer service they have been great.

They offer a large variety of reasonably priced, cruelty free items, where as Sephora is definitely more expensive and high end. They have great sales, coupons, rewards. Unless something drastic changes I will continue to shop there, but I'm sorry you had such a bad experience.
