Thanks for responding, qtrmoonlady! After I saw the thread had been poofed, I didn't come back until just now.
Going Gray, Looking Great is the book by Diana Lewis. She started the Silver Sisters Café Grey site. I will repeat; everyone is supportive and friendly on that site. I do hope this thread continues without the usual problems!

I just passed the one year mark since my last color. It has come in beautifully. I have a strip about 3" wide which goes all around the perimeter of my head that is pure white. The rest is about 65% darkest brown (almost black) with the rest being silver/white. Kind of Cruella DeVille/dramatic. Love it.
I quit the dye after realizing that the itching I had after color was due to an allergy to PPD, one of the main ingredients in hair dye. This is nothing to fool around with; people have died from anaphylactic shock after being exposed to PPD one too many times. Others become sensitized to ALL dyes and inks....they can no longer use/wear anything with artificial dyes; clothing, makeup, some foods, magazines, etc., etc.
I use a silver shampoo (Schwarzkopf sp?) purchased on line. I only use it once every 10 days or so; otherwise, my silver would be a little too blue! I know that the Jhirmack products for gray hair get good reviews. Aveda also makes Blue Malva which gets good reviews. The Silver Sisters site has many threads about dealing with the skunk stripe, shampoos and conditioners, really, all things silver! Lots of makeup, hair and clothing talk, as well as how to deal with negativity in regards to your decision to go natural.

I want to thank whomever mentioned the Café Gray Forum. I took a look to see if anyone had used gray highlights to ease into going gray and it was mentioned that the highlights can turn brassy (orange) over time. This is a concern of mine because my hair is colored medium brown and orangey highlights is not what I'm after, lol. So that is an issue I'll bring up with my hair stylist the next time I have an appointment and can discuss gray highlights with her.
Sweet Susie, I am the poster who mentioned the Café Gray forum. Glad you took a look. Hope you come back to visit ![]()
Yes, the problem with highlights is that they do oxidize over time and turn an unattractive "blorange". Especially if you have very dark hair (dyed or natural). Think the highlights over carefully before going down that road.

I also have blue eyes and used Rapid Lash for a year or so. The results were astonishing and I still have unchanged blue eyes.It is crazy that on this forum, people can't agree to disagree. That being said. I thing it would be fun to have a color that would wash totally out in one shampoo. I think it would be fun to try different colors, for 1 day.
I have silvery-white hair, about 80%. I really love it! It is a pretty color and I get complements all the time, from total strangers. The cable man was here Monday and as he was leaving, he told me he loved my hair. I laughed, because we know not all people feel the same way about grey hair. Some loath it. I told him I liked it and I didn't care if it make me look older.. We had already discussed age and he knew I was 59, he said it didn't make me look older, because I had a nice clear face.
I sit in church and look at all the grey haired people. Some of it is beautiful and some not so much. Just like all hair styles, cut and colors.
I love silvery-white with a nice cut. I have never dislike mine. It was almost black when I was young.
If I every had to look for work, I would have probably colored it, just to conform. I think I would like a dark alburn.
One thing that may be a little odd, is that my lashes and eyebrows are still very dark. I have good brows, get complements when I have them threaded. I wish my eyelashes were longer, but won't use latisse, don't want any dark spots in my blue eyes.

You are welcome, Celebration!
I have that book and it is terrific. "Amazing Grays" by Maggie Rose Crane is also an excellent book.

Good morning everyone.
How many of you needed to change your makeup colors and style as you turned gray? What changes did you make?
My graying was so gradual - it took yeeeears - that I really didn't pay attention to my makeup colors until one day I put on my makeup just like I had every day for 20+ years and noticed that it looked weird. After that, I started tweaking here and there. Experimenting. I now wear pinks - can't seem to wear corals or dark burgundies anymore. And that's just the beginning of my makeup changes.
How about you?

I am still working on my makeup changes now that I have white/silver hair rather than ash blond colored hair. I do wear more reds on my lip now... not red red, but darker pinks. Before I never would do that!. I am still working on blush... just can not seem to get it right with blush! And I have so many of them that just do not seem right. Any suggestions? I have I would say light to medium skin.
