I stopped coloring my hair about 8 to 10 years ago because it would either be too dark or turn very reddish. I see nothing wrong with coloring if you're happy with the results. My hair is mostly silver now with some brown and it might take awhile to get used to but as we age and we all do it is the look for me that I like. I have adjusted my make-up but still love and wear lighter eye make-up and still take good care of my skin. Wish those dang wrinkles - I prefer smile lines would go away and I keep trying and won't stop! I am now in my 70's - how can that be? and enjoy everyday!

I soooo wish my hair would just "go gray"! My combo dark brown/gray right now is not a good look for me, so I started coloring it dark brown some years ago. In the last couple of years, though, the grays became very resistant to the darker color, so about 18 months ago I had my stylist do highlights. She did a lot of them, with the result that my hair is more "blonde" than anything. No one was more surprised than I was that I absolutley LOVE the results! Having been a brunette my whole life (59 years) I never thought this very light color would suit my skin tones so well.

So---until I get more gray, I guess I'll keep highlighting, at least until I retire. Then I might let it grow out and see what's what!

It is crazy that on this forum, people can't agree to disagree. That being said. I thing it would be fun to have a color that would wash totally out in one shampoo. I think it would be fun to try different colors, for 1 day.

I have silvery-white hair, about 80%. I really love it! It is a pretty color and I get complements all the time, from total strangers. The cable man was here Monday and as he was leaving, he told me he loved my hair. I laughed, because we know not all people feel the same way about grey hair. Some loath it. I told him I liked it and I didn't care if it make me look older.. We had already discussed age and he knew I was 59, he said it didn't make me look older, because I had a nice clear face.

I sit in church and look at all the grey haired people. Some of it is beautiful and some not so much. Just like all hair styles, cut and colors.

I love silvery-white with a nice cut. I have never dislike mine. It was almost black when I was young.

If I every had to look for work, I would have probably colored it, just to conform. I think I would like a dark alburn.

One thing that may be a little odd, is that my lashes and eyebrows are still very dark. I have good brows, get complements when I have them threaded. I wish my eyelashes were longer, but won't use latisse, don't want any dark spots in my blue eyes.

It always becomes an argument. I started the thread to have women who choose to not color talk and share experiences and products... then someone comes on the thread who colors and wants to fight about the fact that they color and what do you want to say about it... very frustrating. That person could have started a thread of their own to share color stories and hints etc. Instead they bombarded my thread to silver foxes.... and got it poofed.

Don't you hate it when that happens? I know I do. And of all the things to argue over. Silly girls.

I wish you ladies luck, but I'm keeping my mouth shut on this topic! It seems regardless of what you say on here it gets twisted around to suit someone else's needs! I love my silver gray hair and my mother and grandmother both had beautiful white hair when they both died!

Gazelle, your haircut sounds adorable!

I stopped coloring my hair over 3 months ago and sometimes when I look in the mirror now I get a bit of a shock. Right now it's about 2 inches white in the front, gradually turning salt and pepper towards the back. The rest of my length is still auburn, but that will come off eventually. I'm looking forward to it all growing in silver. So far the most difficult change I've had to make is with my eye make-up. I'm used to wearing dark eyeliner under my eyes to define them, and with the white hair, that look is too harsh for me now. Gonna experiment with lighter colors.Smile

Celebration -- hi! Could you please give us the address to the Cafe blog? I asked in the thread that was poofed, so never saw if you responded. I googled it but couldn't find the correct one. Thank you! I hope this thread stays friendly and helpful. BTW - to the lady who asked.... I DO change my gray hair's color slightly on a daily basis. Some days I use a Roux color mousse. It washes out completely.

You can also find the link on by googling "Going gray, looking great". The link is mentioned on that site.
