Re: Setting Powder Under Foundation

[ Edited ]

OK Ladies, I tried it this morning and I don't like it.

7 AM, I did my usual morning routine - cleanse, green tree extract, RLT mask, finish skincare.

Makeup application was:

Milani No Pore Zone Primer

Skinn Dream Finish Powder (super finely milled and lighter than a feather)

Estee Lauder Double Wear Fondation

Pur Bronzer

Laura Geller B-n-B Blush

I started with 1.5 pumps of foundation and, as I suspected, the foundation was drying before I could get it spread out.  I had to pump more onto my brush to finish. This is more foundation than I have been using the last couple of days as I am new to trying the ELDW.  Requiring extra = waste, IMO. The finish wasn't as smooth either.

3.5 hrs. later, my foundation was patchy - gone from certain areas and cakey in others.

I used the ELDW Monday and Tuesday and I like it very much when applied in a traditional fashion and set with Milani Make It Last setting spray.

Re: Setting Powder Under Foundation

@JeanLouiseFinch Sorry it didn't work for you.  I also did it this morning (hadn't done it in awhile) with my EL DW foundation and I didn't notice any difference in how much foundation or that it dried any faster than usual.  I did, however, spray a light mist of setting spray over the powder and let it dry before I added my foundation so maybe that helped.

It's always hit or miss for me when I try out different techniques.  For example, a ton of people love using a beauty sponge to apply foundation and I hate it.  Am never happy with how it looks no matter what the sponge or foundation.  I do, however, like to press a damp sponge against my face after my foundation is applied with a brush.  Just am never happy applying it directly with the sponge.

Re: Setting Powder Under Foundation

This did not work for me this am.

-Primer

-Light dusting of IT powder

-Setting spray

-L'Oreal Paris True Match Nude Hyaluronic Tinted Serum Foundation with 1% Hyaluronic acid

Led to a disaster. Had to wash my face and start over. Foundation went on dry and blotchy. W/o the dusting powder, my foundation looks fabulous, so I won't be trying this again. I do assume operator error. LOL.

Re: Setting Powder Under Foundation

I do this often and it works well for me.  I don't use a primer when I wear it this way.  I've done it with IT CC cream and Doll 10 Hydragel foundation, and my makeup lasts all day.  Yesterday I asked my sister what makeup she was wearing.  She said "Why, is it too dark?"  I told ner no, it looks great.  She said she used a light dusting of powder under her Mary Kay foundation.

I tried this technique on myself yesterday just to experiemnt. What a mess!

I have a small pink rechargeable fan to dry my skincare faster. I waited awhile and then applied my LM setting powder. Then applied a liquid foundation. It caked up, balled up  and the foundation actually "pulled off" the powder...even after setting again. Not a good look.

I have used powder to "bake" under the eyes on brides, but that's an entirely different technique.

Maybe they just want to sell more of their powder.

This technique may give exra full coverage which I don't want or need and a very matte look...I also prefer a natural dewy look. I don't need my makeup to last 12-14 hours either.......That may be the only instance when this would work, but I think it'd be a choice of foundation and powder that work together.

@JeanLouiseFinch  @San Antonio Gal   I just posted my  experiment on myself. I have no idea how this would ever work or why they suggested it.

I do this all the time but then again,  I use a powder foundation. I dust some loose setting powder over my sunscreen, because it's pretty shiny, then I go ahead and apply my powder foundation over it.

@Texasmouse   I follow a youtuber MrKongsMom who has very, very oily skin. She wears LG Balance and Brighten, but first uses a setting powder over her skincare so the oils don't break through the powder foundation.

My skin is dry.  I only use a setting powder in the t zone after my foundation which is usually only a tinted moisturizer.
